West Brom have had a difficult season, but there may be some light at the end of the tunnel as the campaign nears its finale.
The Baggies are creeping closer to Championship safety under James Morrison, who has done an amazing job of bringing around a group of players who appeared to be lost.
The Albion icon has managed to improve his side’s performance in all areas, giving everyone associated with the club hope that they can put a disappointing season behind them.
While their future is uncertain, the Albion hierarchy will reasonably believe that under Morrison’s leadership, the Baggies will survive, and plans for next season will begin to emerge.
One issue has already been addressed at the board level, with former Baggies striker Jason Roberts hired as Non-Executive Director this week.
The 48-year-old, who scored 26 goals in 96 appearances for The Hawthorns and is the nephew of the late Cyrille Regis, currently serves as Concacaf’s Chief Football Development Officer and has joined the Albion board alongside Shilen Patel, Ethan Gobetz, and Mark Miles.
According to the announcement on Albion’s club website, Roberts will provide impartial monitoring and constructive comments on the board’s performance, as well as contribute to club strategy, planning, and decision-making through his experience in both English and international football.
It’s a solid addition for Albion, especially given the need for more knowledge at a time when the playing roster is expected to undergo a significant change, regardless of whatever league the Black Country outfit plays in next season.
With this news in mind, FLW’s West Brom fan commentator has shared his thoughts on Roberts’ appointment to Albion’s board, and if the club made the correct move.
West Brom are praised for hiring Jason Roberts, who has “a strong Albion connection”

Speaking to Football League World, West Brom fan pundit Callum Burgess is optimistic about the appointment of former Albion forward Jason Roberts as a Non-Executive Director, believing his extensive football knowledge, both in England and internationally, will benefit the club.
Callum told FLW: “At first glance, it’s great to have someone with a strong Albion connection involved once more.
“When you dig deeper, he’s worked on the board of Concacaf and will continue to do so, and he’s also someone who has previously met Shilen Patel, so it’s great to have that link continuing.
“I believe he can assist Albion get more footballers interested. It’s been said that we don’t have enough of them, and hopefully he can make a great influence on Albion this summer and beyond.”
West Brom sorely need footballing people on the board.

It’s been a terrible season for West Brom, but there is now hope that they may clinch Championship safety and put this turbulent time in their history behind them.
The Baggies have been the architects of their own demise as a result of board decisions, with Albion hiring two inexperienced head coaches and poor player recruitment, creating a prescription for disaster.
But now, James Morrison has restored fight and pride to this West Brom team, and if they escape the almighty threat of relegation, they must bring in footballers who understand the game to assist lead the American owners.
And bringing in someone like Jason Roberts is the first major step. The 48-year-old had a successful playing career in England, and his work with Concacaf means he has extensive knowledge of the game both at home and around the world.
This will be especially important in terms of player recruitment, which has been heavily criticized as a major factor in Albion’s drop in the Championship table this season, but if they can survive by the skin of their teeth, they can hopefully look forward to seeing a side built that can get the club back fighting for the top end of the division.
