Sheffield’s audaciousness Sheffield United’s merger plan was revealed on Wednesday as part of the Owls’ bid.

An unsuccessful group interested in taking over Sheffield Wednesday apparently planned a surprise merger if they won.

The Owls have been looking for a new owner since Dejphon Chansiri was forced to place them in administration in late October due to an inability to pay a £1 million HMRC payment.

Since then, other interested parties have expressed their intention to take over Wednesday, including Mike Ashley and John McEvoy. That list was reduced to 11 people, with bids already received at this time.

December 5 has been established as the date for an announcement on who the Owls’ next owner will be, allowing them to finally move on from their history under Chansiri.

While the acquisition process has already progressed significantly, it has been discovered that one interested party had some humorous plans for Wednesday if they become owners.

The Sheffield United merger was intended by an interested Sheffield Wednesday acquisition party.

While it is unclear who will become the Owls’ future owner and what their aspirations for the club are, one party in particular was reportedly ruled out quite swiftly.

According to the Daily Mail, an unknown entity made an odd offer for Wednesday, wishing to seek a merger with city rivals Sheffield United if successful – which would have most certainly gone down like a lead balloon.

It is indicated that the offer will not be pursued, which is not surprising given the plans, but there is plenty of serious interest and potential bids on the table in an effort to resurrect the Owls.

Wednesday fans have continued to back their club greatly following Chansiri’s leaving, with it being stated within the report that matchday receipts among the greatest in the club’s history were recorded during their Steel City derby defeat.

Sheffield Wednesday fans would not have been satisfied with a Sheffield United merger.

Given the anguish and distress Chansiri caused Wednesday fans throughout his tenure as owner, supporters want a level-headed leader who is just interested in victory.

This means that any plans for a merger with their arch-rivals would have been laughed out of Hillsborough right away, with no consideration given to any scheme remotely related to such a concept.

The Owls’ fans will be relieved to learn that the party who made the suggestion is no longer involved in the process, and they will hope that whoever wins out has far more realistic ambitions.

In the unlikely event that the party proposing a merger won out, it is unlikely that United would have been eager to accept as well – it appears to be the brainchild of an individual or party with ideas far beyond their station, and it would have been likely thrown out of consideration by administrators Begbies Traynor.
