Sheffield Wednesday’s exit decision changed after the James Bord takeover collapsed.

Sheffield Wednesday remain in trouble as they prepare to return to League One, but their long-term destiny off the pitch has yet to be determined or a firm strategy put in place.

The Owls’ season began in disorder off the pitch, with then-owner and chairman Dejphon Chansiri increasing his neglect of the club.

There was a brief time of euphoria following Chansiri’s departure when he pushed the club into administration, but failing to emerge from that process is beginning to take its toll on an already depleted fan base.

That has not been helped by the long-term prospective buyer, James Bord, who previously served as a consultant for city rivals Sheffield United and saw his purchase of the club fail.

On the football, Wednesday were relegated last week after losing the Steel City Derby against United at Bramall Lane.

Henrik Pedersen has tried to find something on the pitch, but off-field issues have overshadowed the campaign, and the Bord collapse has had ramifications.

Kevin Beadell set to stay at Sheffield Wednesday in a major U-turn following James Bord announcement.

According to The Star, Sheffield Wednesday’s administrators have made a U-turn on the future of current Head of Recruitment Kevin Beadell.

Beadell joined Hillsborough from Cardiff City in December 2023, but he appeared to be leaving soon, with administrators informing him that his monthly rolling contract would not be renewed beyond February.

Furthermore, Beadell was warned that the chosen bidder, the Bord-led consortium, would not seek to retain his services; however, things have altered since that takeover collapse.

Instead, Beadell will maintain his work with the club and supervise the club’s business this summer, which, according to the source, will be’manic’.

It was assumed that Bord’s AI-led recruitment approach, which he brought to Wednesday’s fierce rivals Sheffield United and whose results have been dismal, would replace Beadell’s job, but this will not happen as Bord withdraws from his takeover offer.

Sheffield Wednesday remain in a perilous predicament following James Bord’s withdrawal.

If a buyout is ever confirmed, Beadell and the club would face an incredibly hectic summer transfer window as the South Yorkshire giants try to reclaim their pride.

The squad will require huge structural changes just to field an eleven next season, but there are encouraging indicators about Beadell’s ability to conduct business even under the most difficult of circumstances.

For example, the Owls signed Harry Amass on loan from Manchester United last summer, and he went on to become a crucial player for the club until joining Norwich City in January.

Gems like that, as well as the impressive Jaden Heskey from Manchester City, will offer supporters faith that, if and when a rebuild begins, Wednesday will be ready to compete and go up in the third division again next season.
