Sheffield Wednesday are reportedly preparing to recruit Luton Town striker Jerry Yates on loan.
Wednesday has had a horrible season, going on a club-record 22-game losing streak and sitting at the bottom of the Championship table with minus seven points, with relegation to League One almost certain.
With the club still in administration, the Owls have had a difficult January transfer window, and long-serving captain Barry Bannan joined Millwall this week, becoming the latest departure from Hillsborough.
Despite the ongoing ownership uncertainty, Wednesday has been granted permission by the EFL to make a few loan signings this month, with goalkeeper Murphy Cooper and midfielder Jaden Heskey joining on loan from QPR and Manchester City, respectively, and it appears they may be closing in on another new signing.
BBC Radio Sheffield’s Rob Staton first reported that the Owls were looking to clinch a loan move for Yates, and journalist Pete O’Rourke has subsequently revealed that the striker is on his way to S6 for a medical after a deal with Luton was reached.
Sheffield Wednesday are likely to sign Luton Town striker Jerry Yates on loan.

Yates just joined Luton in the summer, leaving Swansea City for a reported seven-figure amount following their relegation to League One.
The 29-year-old was on loan at Derby County last season and finished as the club’s top scorer, scoring 10 goals in 42 games to help them avoid relegation from the Championship.
However, it is fair to say that Yates’ time at Kenilworth Road has not gone well, with the striker scoring only seven goals in 29 games for the Hatters, only two of which have come in the league.
Yates has fallen out of favour at Luton since Jack Wilshere took over as manager from Matt Bloomfield, with the striker making only one league appearance in nearly two months.
After only six months with the Hatters, it appears Yates is about to depart as he prepares to make a temporary move to Wednesday, and with a physical arranged, the transaction might be completed soon.
Jerry Yates’ contract with Sheffield Wednesday might have a domino effect on Bailey Cadamarteri as Blackburn Rovers circle.

After failing to make an impression at Luton since his big-money summer move, Yates’ arrival will not thrill Wednesday fans, but it was always going to be difficult for the club to lure higher-caliber players in their current situation.
While Yates has struggled for goals for the Hatters, he did score double digits for Derby in the Championship last season, so he should be able to lead the Owls’ attack in the second half of the season.
As Wednesday prepare to boost their forward line, the signing of Yates may result in the club sanctioning the exit of Bailey Cadamarteri, who was the subject of an increased £800,000 bid from Blackburn Rovers this week, and who is also wanted by Millwall, Stoke City, and Hibernian.
