According to The Star, Sheffield Wednesday is interested in Timothy Fosu-Mensah while they wait for the EFL to approve any possible free agent additions.
Sheffield Wednesday’s team is in ruins following a terrible summer. Due to registration embargoes brought on by their financial difficulties, they were only able to sign Harry Amass and Ethan Horvath on loan.
However, SWFC has been attempting to obtain approval for some free agent additions by working with the EFL since administration and the dismissal of Dejphon Chansiri.
Henrik Pedersen, the manager of Sheffield Wednesday

The Star now claims that Timothy Fosu-Mensah is one player on Sheffield Wednesday’s transfer radar.
They state that in the event that the EFL approves certain out-of-window acquisitions, Henrik Pedersen and the Owls have compiled a list of possible free agency targets. Additionally, Fosu-Mensah is one of the players SWFC has shortlisted, though there is still no sign of a final decision.
With Sheffield Wednesday showing interest, Timothy Fosu-Mensah was sidelined for a considerable amount of time.
Fans of Sheffield Wednesday are probably familiar with Fosu-Mensah’s name. The Dutchman began his career in the Ajax system before joining Manchester United’s youth team in 2014.

With the Red Devils, he would later make his breakthrough as a senior. Fosu-Mensah found experience out on loan with Crystal Palace and Fulham but also played 30 matches for Manchester United.
The 27-year-old would eventually leave Old Trafford permanently, moving to Bayer Leverkusen in 2021. Despite playing a supporting role and making only 30 appearances over three years, Fosu-Mensah still holds a Bundesliga title and a DfB Pokal.
In 2024, the free agent target for Sheffield Wednesday left Leverkusen. He has spent time training back with Ajax since then, but he may require time to get up to match sharpness before coming to the fore at his next club.
An ideal profile for Sheffield Wednesday?
The fact Fosu-Mensah will likely take time to get up to speed isn’t ideal for Sheffield Wednesday.
Nonetheless, the Owls may really benefit from his physicality and adaptability. The three-time Dutch international has played all over the pitch during his career, be it as a full-back, centre-back, defensive midfielder or at wing-back.

His ability to play in numerous roles when SWFC are so short in depth could be key in deciding whether they make a move or not. Ultimately, the Owls may have to assess just where he is with his fitness before making an offer though.
If they pass up the chance to sign Fosu-Mensah, Wednesday will be sure to have alternative options lined up as they look to the free agents market.
