Sheffield United are considering a deadline-day transfer for Sunderland defender Leo Hjelde.
The Star reports that the Blades’ transfer intentions have changed as a result of full-back Sam McCallum’s catastrophic injury in last weekend’s draw at Millwall.
McCallum was stretchered off at The Den, and Blades manager Chris Wilder said his season could be over.
It would leave Harrison Burrows as their sole senior left-back option, with the Yorkshire side in need of more depth to get through the rest of the Championship season.
Quality will be required in all areas for Sheffield United to have the best opportunity of continuing their good form and advancing to the play-offs.
Sheffield United are considering a deadline-day move for Leo Hjelde.

According to The Star, Sheffield United are looking to bring Sunderland defender Leo Hjelde to Bramall Lane on deadline day.
The Blades have apparently had to rethink their transfer plans due to Sam McCallum’s unfortunate injury, with reports indicating that he may be gone for the season after being stretchered off last weekend.
Sheffield United are thought to have been looking for central defensive reinforcements after losing Ben Godfrey earlier in the summer and loaning Nils Zatterstrom to Genoa, but the Blades now want a player who can play both central defence and left-back.
This has led them to Hjedle, a former Leeds United player who is comfortable playing in both places and needs game time after recuperating from a major Achilles injury at the Stadium of Light.
Hjedle is expected to be loaned out for the rest of the season, as the defender has fallen down the pecking order since Sunderland’s return to the Premier League.
Sheffield United is proper in trying to bring in versatile defender Leo Hjelde.

From the outside, Sheffield United’s move for Leo Hjelde appears to be the right decision.
He’s a versatile backline player who will help the club if any more injuries or suspensions occur, he’s eager to play regular football after such a long layoff, and he has the much-needed Championship experience to come in and make an immediate impact.
One issue is that he is only recently recovered from such a serious injury, so it is unclear whether his minutes will be handled properly to avoid a setback and return to the treatment table.
Otherwise, the Blades are looking for the proper player and could definitely use a flexible player like him in their lineup.
