Sheffield United have provided the latest update on a Manchester City transfer situation amid ongoing speculation.

Kalvin Phillips of Manchester City joined Sheffield United on loan for the rest of the season in February.

When Phillips arrived in South Yorkshire, he confessed that he wanted to “play as many games as possible,” which has not happened.

The 30-year-old, who cost City £45 million after leaving Leeds United, has only played 161 minutes of Championship games thus far.

Blades manager Chris Wilder expects the midfielder to return from a minor procedure after the international break, so there is hope that his game time will improve during the run-in.

However, there is little prospect that Phillips will become a permanent United player by the start of next season.

Sheffield United stated that their chances of signing Manchester City’s Kalvin Phillips are “very slim”.

Jimmy from Blades Ramble, a Sheffield United fan, discusses the club’s chances of signing on-loan Manchester City midfielder Kalvin Phillips permanently this summer.

Jimmy replied, “No, I don’t think we have a chance of signing him. It is unlikely that Kalvin Phillips will be signed permanently. He just has too much money; we have to be realistic about where we are. We’ve run out of parachute payments now, and I believe we’ll have to be much more cautious with some of the signings we make,” the Fan Pundit continued.

Phillips’ weekly salary at Manchester City was expected to be £150,000, according to Capology. According to the same projected wage source, his United salaries are £45k per week, although the club will most likely be unable to afford those post-parachute payments.

Also, the Blades are likely to be without parachute payments next season, the first time since 18/19.

Why there “might be a conversation” about Kalvin Phillips’ permanent Sheffield United transfer

Jimmy stated that Sheffield United may still discuss signing Phillips on a permanent basis, despite their need to be more prudent with their finances.Look, there’s a chance he’ll end his contract at City, and then there might be a conversation, because we work for him geographically, from what I understand, and obviously some of his friends are here, and there’s a strong belief that he can re-find some of his form at Sheffield United,” Jimmy explained.

Furthermore, according to The Yorkshire Post, Phillips intends to end his relationship with City by mutual consent after the season. This keeps Blades’ weak hopes alive.

Jimmy completed his judgment by noting, “So it really depends on what he wants out of his career.” However, with his current wages, there is little possibility that we will be able to get a permanent agreement for Kalvin Phillips. Unless he takes a substantial, considerable dip.”

Ultimately, Phillips has not played 30 or more games in a season since 20/21, when he was still a Leeds player. So the lack of game time at Sheffield United is nothing new, but it will undoubtedly be examined if the club wants him on a permanent basis.

What is more concerning for Jimmy is the player’s expected earnings. Yes, it is unclear how much the midfielder earns per week, but if it is anywhere near the aforementioned figures, the Blades may be forced to go elsewhere.
