By cutting his team this summer, Amorim, 40, will be looking to improve on his team’s 2024–2025 Premier League finish of 15th.
Up to seven players may miss Manchester United’s preseason opener, with head coach Ruben Amorim granting “special permission” for two of them to do so.
After a much-needed summer break, Amorim, 40, will welcome his Man United team back on Monday, July 7. The team concluded the 2024–25 season in 15th position in the Premier League and lost the Europa League final to Spurs 1-0 in May.
Two summer transfers have already been completed by United: Paraguayan left-back Diego Leon joined from Cerro Porteno for a reported £2.9 million plus an additional £3.6 million in performance-related bonuses, while Brazil international Matheus Cunha arrived from Wolves for £62.5 million.
Additionally, Old Trafford is probably going to let go of a number of high-profile players this summer.
Marcus Rashford, Alejandro Garnacho, Jadon Sancho, Antony, and Tyrell Malacia were granted special clearance to resume preseason training later than their colleagues, according to a report published by The Athletic last week.

All five had informed the club that they intended to quit United, according to sources who spoke to the newspaper, but several denied this.
Following the passing of their Portugal teammate Diogo Jota, Diogo Dalot and Bruno Fernandes have been granted special permission to resume preseason play late, according to The Sun.
Neither the players nor the club have yet to confirm this, though.
Dalot and Fernandes attended Jota’s funeral, which was held in Portugal on Saturday.
The two have reportedly been granted a week off, according to Manchester World reports, while other international players are anticipated to resume training on Thursday.

Fernandes shared a touching comment on his Instagram story after Jota passed away.
“Friend, colleague, and comrade through many battles,” he wrote.
It is hard to comprehend how someone may depart at such a young age.
“I hope you and your brother find the serenity you need to care for the people you lost so unexpectedly and quickly.
“My deepest sympathies to your entire family.”
Prior to playing West Ham (July 27), Bournemouth (July 31), and Everton (August 3) in the US as part of the Premier League Summer Series, United begins preseason play on July 19 against Leeds United in Stockholm, Sweden.
After that, on August 9, the Red Devils will play Fiorentina at Old Trafford. On August 17, they will host Arsenal to begin their Premier League campaign.
