Scott McTominay targeted for sensational move away from Napoli just months after joining the club

Scott McTominay, a former midfielder for Manchester United, has been linked with a sensational move away from Napoli after spending just over six months with the Serie A club.

In the summer of 2024, McTominay, who was 28 years old at the time, moved from Manchester United to Antonio Conte’s team in a deal that was reportedly worth up to £27.5 million.

And ever since he arrived in Campania, he has settled in quite well, as evidenced by the fact that he has made 28 appearances for the Italian team, making seven goals and four assists.

In the month of January, the head coach of Napoli, Conte, who is 55 years old, expressed his admiration for the Scotland international and explained how he had “made a big difference” alongside Romelu Lukaku, another former player for Manchester United.

While the Naples team is currently in the midst of a poor run in which they have only won one of their last seven Serie A matches, they are still in the race for the championship. They are currently trailing Inter Milan by three points with nine league matches left to play.

There is no doubt that supporters of Napoli will want to keep McTominay this summer; however, it may be difficult to do so because Fichajes claims that the midfielder is attracting interest from Inter, with head coach Simone Inzaghi being thought to be “keen” on the player.

The publication makes the assertion that Inter’s interest is “strong” and that they will “try to complete a deal” in the short period of time that is to follow.

The fact that McTominay is under contract with Napoli until the summer of 2028 makes it difficult to determine whether or not he would be willing to move to the Northern Italian side. The Scot is estimated to be worth approximately €40 million (£33.5 million) by Transfermarkt sources.

During an interview with BBC Sport in December, the 28-year-old player disclosed that he “loves” the city and the fans of the team.

“It was a big decision [to move to Italy], but in some ways it was quite straightforward,” according to McTominay. “I saw the fervent fans, I saw the coach, I saw the players, and I saw an opportunity,” the coach said.

I knew that was what I wanted, and I’ll never have any regrets in my life, so it didn’t take me long to make the decision because I knew right away that it was the right choice. I did not turn around to look back.

This is my favourite place. Just as much as I adore the fans, I adore my teammates.

“It has been a pleasure to be with Billy [Gilmour] every day rather than just seeing him at Scotland and we have helped each other a lot.”
