Scott McTominay in line for surprise Man Utd reunion after transfer twist

McTominay may soon be joined at Napoli by another of his former Manchester United teammates.

Scott McTominay, a Napoli midfielder, could have an unexpected reunion with one of his old Manchester United teammates, according to reports.

McTominay was named Serie A’s MVP last season after helping Napoli win the Scudetto on the final day of the season.

He scored 12 goals and assisted four times, becoming a cult legend among supporters of the Italian giants.

There were reports in the Italian media that Antonio Conte was on the verge of leaving the club as manager at the end of last season due to transfer disagreements, but those rumors were put to rest following a successful crisis meeting and the marquee signing of ex-Manchester City star Kevin De Bruyne on a free transfer.

Napoli is reportedly setting up a surprise name from Manchester’s red side to join him.

According to Italian transfer expert Ciro Venerato, the Serie A champions are preparing to sign attacker Rasmus Hojlund.

The Dane was left out of United’s squad for Sunday’s 1-0 loss at Arsenal and may have played his final game for the club.

Napoli are looking for a striker after Romelu Lukaku suffered a significant thigh injury during last Thursday’s pre-season friendly against Olympiacos.

On Sunday, the club issued a statement announcing that the Belgian had suffered ‘high-grade’ thigh injuries, pending further evaluation to decide whether he required surgery.

After Lukaku’s injury, Napoli is in frantic hunt of a striker.
Venerato informed RaiNews 24 that Napoli is in talks to sign seven forwards in the wake of Lukaku’s catastrophic injury.

Along with Hojlund, Venerato adds that Antonio Conte’s side has shortlisted his United teammate Joshua Zirkzee, who is also expected to fall down the pecking order at Old Trafford following the high-profile attacking arrivals of Benjamin Sesko, Bryan Mbeumo, and Matheus Cunha.

Other targets are Chelsea’s Nicolas Jackson, Lecce’s Nikola Krstovic, and Cagliari’s Roberto Piccoli, while Inter Milan forward Mehdi Taremi has been turned down.

Venerato claims that ex-Fulham striker Aleksandar Mitrovic was also offered to Napoli but turned down.

The 30-year-old Serbian presently plays for Al Hilal in the Saudi Pro League, but he has recently been linked to a somewhat unusual transfer.

According to reports, Championship side Birmingham City is interested in bringing the striker back to English football.

However, Birmingham Live reports that the Blues are not interested in signing him, citing his near-ÂŁ400,000-per-week salary in Saudi Arabia as the reason.
