On Monday, Erik ten Hag was dismissed as Manchester United’s manager, and it is purported that three members of his former squad failed to perform their duties.
According to reports, Erik ten Hag is dissatisfied with the performance of Marcus Rashford, Casemiro, and Antony since he was relieved of his responsibilities at Manchester United.
Ten Hag was eventually shown the exit door at Old Trafford on Monday, after what felt like a lengthy wait. The past few years have been unkind to the Dutchman, as evidenced by the club’s worst-ever Premier League finish and one of their worst-ever beginnings.
In the interim, his colleague and subordinate, Ruud van Nistelrooy, will assume responsibility, and Ruben Amorim, the manager of Sporting CP, has become the club’s top priority. A deal for United’s new No. 1 target is also being pursued, according to Mirror Football.
Although he received unwavering support from INEOS and new minority shareholder Sir Jim Ratcliffe, Ten Hag’s team was consistently subpar during his tenure. However, it is purported that these three-star names have caused their manager to become upset.
The Daily Star reports that Rashford, Casemiro, and Antony are three players who were partially responsible for their manager’s ouster and disappointed him.
Rashford has only found the target once this season in the league, during a 3-0 victory at Southampton. Additionally, he has failed to register a shot in his first three league games. Additionally, his preceding campaign was exceedingly disappointing. Ten Hag’s seven league goals and three assists were a significant departure from the 17 goals (30 in all competitions) he produced during his inaugural season.
This season, Casemiro has also faced a significant amount of criticism. The Brazilian was reportedly contemplating a transfer to the Saudi Pro League this summer, as many believed that he was unable to keep up with the fast tempo of the Premier League.
He was replaced by Manuel Ugarte after his dismal performance against Liverpool, in which he was almost entirely responsible for two of his opponents’ goals in the 3-0 rout.
Antony, who also played under Ten Hag at Ajax, was brought in and shown faith by the Dutch manager through his £86m transfer fee. However, he has not quite struck the ground running and has tarnished Ten Hag’s transfer record. The nearly £600m that was spent on constructing the 54-year-old’s ideal squad has been deemed a folly by a significant number of individuals.
Bruno Fernandes, another prominent player who was appointed captain by Ten Hag during his tenure, has also faced criticism in recent weeks for his subpar performances and two red cards, the first of which was later reversed, against Tottenham and Porto.
In the aftermath of Ten Hag’s dismissal, the Portuguese midfielder issued a statement on social media: “Your assistance has been greatly appreciated, dear boss.” I am grateful for the trust and the memories we have shared. I extend my fondest wishes for your future endeavors.
“Even knowing the last period hasn’t been great from all of us, I hope you fans can keep with you the good things the manager has done for our club.”
