After saying he would “love” to see the Liverpool midfielder play for Real Madrid, Ryan Gravenberch’s agent issued a statement.
In what appears to be a Premier League title-winning season, Gravenberch, 22, has been a staple in Liverpool’s midfield.
Head coach Arne Slot will be anxious to prevent the Netherlands midfielder from leaving, especially since the futures of Trent Alexander-Arnold, Virgil van Dijk, and Mohamed Salah are still up in the air.
However, in a recent interview with the Spanish publication MARCA, his representative made a startling assertion.
“Barca called us when Ryan was sixteen,” Jose Fortes Rodriguez stated.
“His father and I placed a higher priority on his growth than their desire to sign him. He is suitable for Real Madrid. Although Liverpool would demand a large sum of money, we would really like for him to play for them. I am aware that they have had their sights set on him, but it is now impossible.
Naturally, most fan bases would be alarmed by such a declaration, and Liverpool supporters were no exception, with many rushing to social media to express their worries.
However, Rodriguez later posted a statement to his Instagram account to clarify his remarks.
Writing, “I’m Spanish,” “It’s not Ryan’s ideal club; it’s mine. He is incredibly thrilled, and if you ask Ryan, he would agree with you [that Liverpool are the biggest club in the world]. Don’t worry, remain composed.
Given that Gravenberch has started every Premier League game this 2024–25 season—an accomplishment that is commendable particularly when you take into account the fact that he was out of favour for a large portion of Jurgen Klopp’s tenure—this will be welcome news to Slot and Liverpool supporters.
Slot has previously been given credit by Gravenberch for his improved play.
In November, Gravenberch told TNT Sports, “It’s a little different now that I play a lot of games as a starter.”
“The coach gave me confidence when I needed it and I’m happy that I can show myself again.”
“Just the run of games, you really need it to be honest,” he stated.
“It may be rather challenging at times. For instance, if you’re on the bench one game and then do well the next, you’ll be on the bench for ten minutes, and the ten minutes won’t go as planned.
“Then the next game you’re on the bench again, so that’s difficult.”
