Ruben Amorim ‘wants to make ex-Premier League star’ his first Man Utd signing in January

Ruben Amorim is expected to succeed Erik ten Hag as Manchester United’s manager following the international break. Before officially leading United in their match against Ipswich Town on November 24, he will conclude his final games with Sporting CP.

Amorim has already prioritized defensive reinforcements, with former Chelsea defender Andreas Christensen, who is presently at Barcelona, as his primary target for the January transfer window, according to *El Nacional*. Amorim is purportedly of the opinion that Christensen is essential for the stabilization of United’s defense, recognizing the Danish defender’s experience and stability as valuable assets. Injuries and restricted playing time have plagued Christensen since his arrival at Barcelona in 2022, which may facilitate a prospective transfer to Old Trafford.

Amorim is scheduled to play two additional matches with Sporting, including a Champions League match against Manchester City, prior to commencing his tenure at Manchester United. Amorim dismissed the notion of being regarded as a hero by United fans when questioned about the potential consequences of defeating Pep Guardiola’s team, stating, “My primary concern is winning the match for Sporting.” It is premature to draw conclusions about his impending role at United, as he expressed caution about the expectations that could arise from a victory.

Amorim acknowledged that the encounter with Manchester City will be a learning experience and shared that observing Guardiola’s tactics in person could provide valuable insights for future Premier League matches. He expressed his eagerness to acquire a more comprehensive understanding of his forthcoming challenge with United, stating, “It is one thing to observe it on television; it is another to witness it live.”
