Roy Keane reveals Celtic message to Martin O’Neill, while Paul Scholes notices manager’s funny Parkhead grumbling.

The pundits south of the border have enjoyed seeing Martin O’Neill back in the Celtic dugout.

Roy Keane has revealed a message he sent to Martin O’Neill on his Celtic comeback, when Paul Scholes noticed the Irishman’s Hoops complaint.

From 2013 to 2018, the Manchester United star and former Celtic player served as O’Neill’s assistant manager for the Republic of Ireland national side. They also worked together at Nottingham Forest for a brief period and Keane has been left thrilled over the experienced gaffer going into Parkhead on an interim basis after Brendan Rodgers’ resignation.

He began his second spell in charge, having previously managed Celtic from 2000 to 2005, with a win over Falkirk and a semi-final triumph over Rangers in the Premier Sports Cup. His return has sparked discussions on The Overlap with Keane, Manchester United legends Gary Neville and Scholes, Arsenal hero Ian Wright, and Lionesses icon Jill Scott. O’Neill’s complaints about his Adidas tracksuit were picked up on at Hampden, while Keane admitted to sending the interim leader a text message.

Keane: “What about Martin going in at Celtic? ”

Wright: “They did it and beat them. He’s amazing.”

Neville: “Have you spoken with him?” ”

Keane says, “No, text him.”

Wright: “It was good, however. “You see his face.”

Scholes: “He complained about his tracksuit, didn’t he? Why are these tracksuits so tight?

Keane: “He has energy. Martin has energy.”

Neville: “Does he train?” Does he do fitness?”

Keane: “No, I think he’s got a decent life style.”

Martin O’Neill discusses FC Midtjylland vs. Celtic

Next up for O’Neill and co is a tricky league phase match in the Europa League against Danish side FC Midtjylland away from home. “Obviously, defeating your major rivals will give you confidence, so that was great for us,” he said prior to the game. “But I’ve seen FC Midtjylland play because I was covering their game for TV a few weeks ago, and they’re very strong.”

“I thought they were great against Nottingham Forest away from home, against a Forest side that are actually quite a physical side themselves, and not only are they very good in set-pieces, they’re also a really talented side. They were terrific on the evening (FC Midtjylland won 3-2) and it’s no surprise that they’ve secured full points from their games.

“We’ve played well in the two games and we got a few goals, so that helps, but Thursday evening will be a totally different ball game. We won the Old Firm derby, which is still regarded as one of the best games in European football, if not the entire world. Watching it back, sometimes there’s things you miss. We had awesome, really great chances. Rangers fared brilliantly with 10 men in the second half of the game. But, we did create some chances. I’m totally aware that the results dictate everything, everything. Just let’s turn the clock back and we’d lost to Rangers, then I think the hunt for the manager, which is on at this minute, becomes intensified. However, it’s a little relief if you get a result.
