Following Manchester United’s humiliating loss to Newcastle by a score of 4-1 on Sunday, Roy Keane made a scathing remark to one of the club’s players.
However, United allowed three goals to be scored in the second half, despite the fact that they were tied at the break due to an equaliser scored by Alejandro Garnacho, which cancelled out a fantastic shot by Sandro Tonali.
A record-tying 14th loss of the season for United in the Premier League was handed to them by Bruno Guimaraes, who finished off the scoring. Harvey Barnes scored twice, and Bruno Guimaraes completed the scoring sequence.
Ruben Amorim’s squad continues to struggle, and supporters of United have demanded that Victor Lindelof and Christian Eriksen never again play for the club because of their poor performance.
In addition, Keane, a former captain of Manchester United, expressed the same opinion with regard to Eriksen, a Danish midfielder, stating that he is no longer proficient enough to play for the club and that he ought to have already left.
As a 33-year-old player, the former Spurs and Inter Milan player had a difficult time dealing with the sheer power and energy that Newcastle’s midfield possessed.
After the game, Keane made the following statement on Sky Sports: “There are players playing for Manchester United today, and I feel compelled to return to Eriksen, United’s midfielder.” It is not mobile. His ability to navigate the pitch is limited. In terms of strength and power, Newcastle’s midfield was unparalleled.
“As the game progressed, they were gaining strength each and every time. It would have been better for Eriksen to leave United at least one or two years ago. Is this a good group of players? A few of them, in my opinion, are.
But are they capable of playing for Manchester United? Not in the slightest.”
Eriksen arrived for United on a free in 2022 and has won both the Carabao Cup and FA Cup, amassing more than 100 appearances.
Christian Eriksen has broken silence on his future
As of the previous month, Eriksen indicated that he anticipates leaving United on a free transfer when the 30th of June arrives, and there have been no negotiations regarding the possibility of an extension happening. His contract will expire in the summer.
“In my head, I’m prepared to find something new,” he said after being interviewed by TV2.
“What that will be is not something I’ve decided yet. I haven’t heard anything, and when I don’t, I presume that the partnership quits.
“That’s how I interpret it. Everyone knows that the contract ends, so I assume there’s only one way [it will go].”
United will be back in action on Thursday when they play Lyon, a team from Ligue One, in the second leg of the Europa League quarter final. The first match of the quarter final took place last week, and it ended in a 2-2 tie.
