Rhodri Giggs Reacts as Brother Ryan Snubbed From Premier League Hall of Fame

Ryan Giggs’ brother, Rhodri, has spoken out after the former Manchester United winger was again passed over for the Premier League Hall of Fame. On Monday, it was announced that 15 players have been shortlisted for the Premier League Hall of Fame, potentially joining Alan Shearer, Thierry Henry, and Wayne Rooney.

Gary Neville, Edwin van der Sar, and Cesc Fabregas were among those named to the shortlist. Despite being the most decorated player in the competition’s history and third on the all-time appearances record, Giggs was snubbed once more. This caused his younger brother, with whom the Welshman has a strained relationship, to publicly comment on the decision to exclude him.

On Sunday, the Premier League’s official X account released an image of the current Hall of Fame honourees, teasing the reveal of the shortlist for the next two entrants. Rhodri responded to the post by slamming the fact that his older brother had not yet been included, accompanied by a video showcasing the Welsh wizard at his best.

“13 Premier League medals and countless goals and the record number of Premier League assists. #TheShamHallOfFame.”

The words of support may surprise you given who is saying them, given that the Giggs brothers have had a strained relationship since the former Red Devil was caught having an affair with Rhodri’s partner at the time.

However, his claim about Giggs’ record-breaking number of assists remains valid, with Kevin de Bruyne the closest contender to his 162 Premier League assists, trailing by 43.

The renowned United number 11 has also spoken out about not being inducted into the hall of fame before now, saying Rio Ferdinand in April: “I didn’t think about it until you brought it up. I do not think about it. I believe that when you first start,… These are the things you don’t strive for. You are attempting to win games and awards. That’s the most essential thing to me.

“I wanted to entertain. I wanted to be entertaining during training. I wanted to entertain myself. At United, you have to win. But, at the same time, if you can entertain and experiment—you know, try small nutmegs, attempt little tricks, and challenge players.”

Although no formal reason has been given for Giggs’ exclusion from the Hall of Fame, BBC Sport reported in January 2025 that many feel his exclusion is due to problems surrounding his character.
