Alejandro Garncho gave Manchester United a 2-0 victory over Everton on Saturday afternoon with two penalty wins.
Our regular penalty taker, Bruno Fernandes, opened the scoring before setting up Marcus Rashford for the second.
After the game, Fernandes told the media that he was sure to score a second goal but that he wanted to change up the player who takes penalties to give the goalkeeper something to think about.
We obviously have more than one penalty taker, as I’ve stated numerous times, and there’s a list in the locker room. As a penalty taker, Marcus is second to none, and I have complete confidence in him whenever he takes the field. I have no doubts at all that he can have the same impact that I can.
Although I did score the first goal, I thought we should have made a change for the second one because it causes the goalkeeper to think a little differently. That was, in my opinion, the best move for the team to help us get another goal because he has to move differently and adjust to a different kind of penalty taker.
It wasn’t that I wasn’t sure I would score—I was—but rather that I asked Marcus if he wanted to accept it after speaking with him. I told him to go ahead after he said, “I would be happy to take one.”
Following the game, Erik ten Hag was questioned regarding the penalty call.
They came to the conclusion that we have more excellent penalty takers in our squad on the field. There are four: Christian Eriksen, Casemiro, Bruno, and Rashy. Thus, we possess additional. And others, even. Having two different penalty takers on your squad at such short notice is a great advantage as it makes things more difficult for the opposing goalkeeper.
