Before their last group stage match, Manchester City star Kevin De Bruyne talked about his future with the Belgium national team.

The 32-year-old is anticipated to lead Belgium in their penultimate group match at the European Championship on Wednesday night. Domenico Tedesco’s team needs to defeat Ukraine in Stuttgart in order to advance to the tournament’s round of 16 matches.

After suffering an unexpected defeat to Slovakia, Belgium defeated Romania 2-0 on Saturday. A pivotal strike by De Bruyne sealed the win in the 80th minute.

In Cologne over the weekend, De Bruyne made his 103rd appearance and netted his 28th goal for Belgium. Despite his age of 33 this month, De Bruyne may be playing in his last international competition this summer.

The midfield player has been with Manchester City since 2015, and if De Bruyne stays at the Etihad Stadium for the 2024โ€“2025 season, he may begin his tenth season with the Sky Blues in August.

After entering the final year of his current City contract and making just 26 appearances for Pep Guardiola’s team this past season, De Bruyne has been linked to a high-profile move to Saudi Arabia.

Due to a recurrent hamstring issue, the 32-year-old Belgian had surgery in August and missed the first half of the season.

However, in 26 appearances, De Bruyne recorded 24 direct goal involvements, helping the Sky Blues win a record-breaking fourth Premier League title in a row. This was De Bruyne’s 16th major trophy with the team.

De Bruyne may have played in his last international competition in the European Championship because the next FIFA World Cup and Euros are scheduled for 2026 and 2028, respectively.

Regarding his future ambitions, the 32-year-old has said nothing more than, “I haven’t really thought about whether this is the end of my international career.” I dislike considering my future or when I will retire.

“I’m not sure if this is my last [Euros] and I haven’t decided when I’m going to finish.” Since I’ve been a member of this squad for ten years, I can impart a wealth of information to the younger players, but to be honest, I’m not sure when I’ll retire.

This summer, De Bruyne’s club future will also be debated. Manchester City may extend an offer to the 32-year-old to stay at the Etihad Stadium.
