Between the lines and even off the field, David Seaman’s life was a film.

Seaman, who turns 61 on Thursday, played for more than 20 years, starting regularly for both Arsenal and the England national side.

And that was in the early years of his profession that Seaman wed Sandra, his childhood sweetheart, for the first time in 1985. The two went on to have two children and 10 years of marriage. Nevertheless, they parted ways after he admitted to having an affair with Debbie, the receptionist at Gunners.

David and Debbie had tied the wedding three years before. “This time, it’s permanent,” he declared.

Together, the pair raised two children, and she supported him when he announced his retirement from football in 2004 after 22 years of play. At this point, Seaman was well-known throughout the world, partly because of Ronaldinho’s hilarious World Cup 2002 chip.

But once the former professional participant made an appearance on Dancing on Ice in 2006, his love life took a new turn. The shot-stopper’s attention was drawn to fellow professional dancer Frankie Poultney, who was 36 at the time, despite the fact that he was partnered with Pam O’Connor.

The Daily Mail wrote that Debbie was “devastated” and added, “There’s no turning back now, though, as I have two young children to think about.” Frankie is welcome to him, in my opinion.”

Seaman acknowledged having an affair while going through a divorce. Three months after splitting from Debbie, Seaman and Frankie moved into a £500,000 riverfront house in Buckinghamshire. 2015 saw their marriage.

“Everyone loves David when they first meet him,” Frankie remarked. His laughter is so contagious. He’s always so damn funny. He’s joyful all the time.

We clicked immediately since we are both from South Yorkshire—I’m from Sheffield, he’s from Rotherham—and we discovered we have a lot in common, including being avid sports, having traveled extensively, and sharing a similar sense of humor.

“We’re very fortunate to have met.”
