Even though it took a while to confirm Enzo Maresca’s arrival at Stamford Bridge, Chelsea is still expected to announce him as their new manager.

The Blues announced on May 22 that they had reached a mutual agreement to part ways with Mauricio Pochettino following the conclusion of their season-ending evaluation. Some were taken aback by the news, given that the Argentine head coach had overcome a difficult beginning to his Chelsea career by winning seven of the final ten Premier League games to finish sixth.

Even though Manchester United’s victory in the FA Cup final ultimately kept Chelsea out of Europe, finishing in the top six was still considered a success given how awful things had been at one point. In an attempt to appoint Pochettino’s successor as soon as possible, owner Todd Boehly has been searching for a new manager at a rapid pace.

Maresca, the manager of Leicester City that won the Championship title, has been the obvious choice to take over as head coach at Stamford Bridge for the past week, but he hasn’t made an announcement yet. This has caused some people to worry that the deal won’t be finalized.

But it seems like just crossing the ts and dotting the i’s is what’s causing the delays. It was revealed on Saturday by journalist Fabrizio Romano that two more pieces needed to be added to the puzzle before it was formally unveiled. First, Maresca has not yet approved his new contract, which may be because he is on vacation. Secondly, the Foxes and Maresca are still in the process of finalizing a compensation package.

It is believed that the Blues will have to pay the current club more than £8.5 million in order to acquire their new manager. Even though these obstacles are crucial to the announcement, they seem like formalities that will be resolved quickly.
