Real Madrid star facing huge UEFA ban as new footage emerges from Arsenal defeat

Due to his behaviour during yesterday night’s Champions League quarterfinal second leg loss to Arsenal, a Real Madrid player may get a significant fine from UEFA.

After Vinicius Junior equalised, goals from Gabriel Martinelli and Bukayo Saka helped Arsenal win 2-1 (5-1 overall).

After the Ligue 1 champions overcame a scare against Aston Villa on Tuesday, Mikel Arteta’s team advanced to the final four and will now play PSG.

Madrid won’t participate in the Champions League until the next year, of course, but one of their star players may get a suspension.

As the teams marched towards the tunnel after the halftime break on Wednesday night, Madrid captain Dani Carvajal seemed to approach Saka.

Standing on the pitch’s touchline, Carvajal—who is presently injured and was left out of the match day squad—seemed to say a few things to his teammates before approaching Saka.

Before the Spain international slapped the Englishman’s head and chest, the conversation appeared innocuous. After that, Saka seemed irritated, but security and a few backroom employees stepped in.

Since then, a number of Spanish media have indicated that Carvajal would be suspended for up to four games due to his conduct.

MARCA noted that “Carvajal’s action could result in a punishment from the UEFA Control and Disciplinary Committee if he decides to enter the squad automatically, as he shouldn’t be in the Real Madrid technical area since he wasn’t included in the squad.”

In the meanwhile, AS proposed: “In accordance with Article 15 of UEFA’s disciplinary rules, the right-back might be suspended for up to four games. According to this text’s Section 15.a.viii, “taking part in a match when ineligible to play, if such a sanction is deemed appropriate” carries a one-match ban.

Additionally, according to the site, for the event to be reported to UEFA, the match official must have noted it on the match report.

Since suffering a severe anterior cruciate ligament injury during a La Liga game against Villarreal on October 5, Carvajal has not played. Although he has subsequently had surgery, it seems improbable that he will make a comeback before the season ends.
