Real defeated Juventus in the Club World Cup’s round of 16.
Real Madrid is on the verge of making Club World Cup history following a 1-0 victory over Juventus in the round of 16.
On Tuesday, Los Blancos faced Juventus at Miami’s Hard Rock Stadium.
Xabi Alonso’s side won two of their three group stage matches to finish first, with a 1-1 tie against Al Hilal being the only blemish on their record.
However, unlike Al Hilal’s other great European opponent, Manchester City, Real avoided early elimination from the tournament.
Castilla striker Gonzalo Garcia, who was named to the starting lineup again as Kylian Mbappe recovers from injury, scored a 54th-minute header from Trent Alexander-Arnold’s cross.
They are one step closer to creating a unique piece of history with their next fixture.
If Borussia Dortmund defeats Mexican side Monterrey on Tuesday night, they will meet Real Madrid in the quarterfinals.
That would raise the possibility of a brother-versus-brother confrontation between Real Madrid’s Jude and Borussia Dortmund’s Jobe Bellingham.
This has never happened in any previous edition of the Club World Cup.
Jobe joined the Bundesliga club earlier this summer for a cost of £25 million, having previously helped Sunderland win promotion from the Championship.
The offensive midfielder scored his first goal for the club in a 4-3 victory over Mamelodi Sundowns, then assisted Daniel Svensson for the only goal in a 1-0 win over Ulsan HD.
Although Jobe followed in his brother’s footsteps by joining Dortmund directly from a Championship club – in Jude’s case, Birmingham – he has stated that the analogy should end there.
“I don’t really care about how it looks,” he told DAZN. “But it might appear paradoxical to some individuals.
“For me, it was about taking the correct road, not a different one. I don’t think my path has been anything like Jude’s.”
