Real Madrid legend Luka Modric set to take surprise ownership role at EFL club

According to talkSPORT’s latest information, Luka Modric will acquire a minority ownership stake in Swansea City.

While playing for Real Madrid, the Croatian is considered to be one of the best midfielders in the history of the sport. His career at Real Madrid has been filled with several titles.

The coveted Ballon d’Or was awarded to Modric in 2018, in addition to the four LaLiga crowns, six Champions League medals, and the renowned award for the year 2018.

In spite of this, it appears that his focus will soon shift to Swansea, a team that competes in the Championship and has an unexpected ownership position.

The bulk of the company is now owned by three American businessmen named Andy Coleman, Brett Cravatt, and Jason Cohen, each of whom own a stake that is worth 77.41 percent.

The Swansea City Supporters Society Ltd. controls the remaining 7.59 percent of the shares, while Nigel Morris retains 14.04 percent of the shares on his own.

What percentage of the club Modric will be purchasing is unknown at this time; however, it is anticipated that he will continue to play for Madrid in addition to his responsibilities.

With four games left to play, Swansea is now ranked 12th in the Championship and is eight points away from becoming eligible for the play-offs.

In February, Luke Williams was fired from his position as manager of the Welsh team, and Alan Sheehan was selected to take over as temporary manager of the team.

Since they were demoted from the Premier League in 2018, the Swans are now participating in their eighth straight season in the Championship football league.

The only times they have come close to making a comeback was in the years 2020 and 2021, when they finished in fourth and sixth place, respectively, before losing in the play-offs.

As Luka Modric prepares to transition into life away from the play, Swansea will now be able to welcome football aristocracy to their board.

After being elevated to the senior squad at Dinamo Zagreb, the young player, who was then 39 years old, signed for Tottenham in the year 2008.

In his time with the Premier League club, he made a total of 160 appearances, which drew the attention of the Spanish powerhouses Madrid.

Over the course of his 583 appearances for the club, Modric has scored 43 goals and assisted on 93 others. He was acquired for about thirty million pounds.

With Madrid, the veteran has won a total of 28 trophies, and he has the potential to surpass the 30-trophy milestone this season as the team competes for three more crowns.

A European football specialist named Andy Brassell spoke on talkSPORT alongside Hawksbee and Jacobs to discuss the interest that Modric has shown in playing for Swansea.

“What a dream it would be to see him in the Championship!” he added with enthusiasm.

“I think he could probably go at Real Madrid for another year or two, but maybe not if there are too many other games like the Arsenal one the other night.”

As the second leg of the Champions League quarterfinals is scheduled to take place this Wednesday, live on talkSPORT, Brassell was alluding to their 3-0 loss to the Gunners in the first leg of the match that took place last week.

“In that formation, I had the distinct impression that Modric was being left out to dry. Before the Arsenal game, I believe I told you guys last week that the worst hour of Champions League football they had in the season prior to that Arsenal game was the opening hour at Liverpool. It’s amusing since I said that before the Arsenal game.

The team deployed [Federico] Valverde at right back, and they missed him tremendously in the middle of the pitch. And what exactly did they do? Additionally, he was played at right back rather than in the middle of the field, and that made a significant impact.

“Jude Bellingham was trying to do the work of three or four men really, so for them to say, ‘We’re a different kettle of fish at the Bernabeu,’ they were all over the place. They were all over the place.”

They have absolutely no chance of winning this second leg if they continue to defend in the same manner that they have been defending previously. In my opinion, all Arsenal needs to do is maintain their composure in order to achieve the desired outcome.
