Another week, another hilarious Micah Richards moment. This time, the former defender turned commentator went viral after trying to speak Spanish with Raphinha, who had surpassed Lionel Messi’s long-standing record.
With their 4-0 victory over Borussia Dortmund, Barcelona and Hansi Flick made history and moved one step closer to securing their trip to Germany for the Champions League final in Munich. Next Tuesday is the return leg, which will take place at Signal Iduna Park.
As usual, Raphinha played a key role in their triumphant evening at the top table of Europe. He not only scored the first goal for the home team but also picked up two further assists, giving him an impressive 19 goal involvements in Europe so far this season.
Raphinha’s 12 goals and seven assists thus far demonstrate how crucial he has been to Flick’s success in the Camp Nou dugout, matching Messi’s total from the 2011–12 campaign. He actually has a good chance of outperforming the Argentine the next week.
The Brazilian winger was struggling to stay in the Premier League with Leeds United, an English team, less than three years ago. He is now playing in the final rounds of the world’s greatest club competition and is a member of one of the most exciting three-man attacking groups in football.
The lovable Richards asked Raphinha, who is considered to be among the best football players in the world, a question in Spanish when he joined the CBS crew following Barcelona’s 4-0 thumping of the Bundesliga team.
One of the greatest strikers in football history, Thierry Henry, and Kate Abdo, who are both fluent in Spanish, conducted the interview in Raphinha’s mother tongue to help the 33-cap, 11-goal Brazil international feel more at ease.
The winger spoke openly with Henry, Abdo, and the legendary players from Barcelona and Arsenal, but things took a turn for the worse when Richards, using his phone as a trigger, intervened to ask him a question following his spectacular performance at home.

Jamie Carragher couldn’t help but laugh, as couldn’t the rest of the star-studded CBS panel. Raphinha and his teammates, who are sitting at the top of La Liga, are eager to maintain their four-goal advantage at Dortmund’s place next week in order to get one step closer to the big-eared trophy. In the meantime, they face Leganes on Saturday. Cutting a bewildered figure on the other side of the screen, it was fortunate that Abdo and Henry were there to translate, otherwise Raphinha would have been left in the dark.
