Rangers’ goalkeeper Jack Butland has broken his silence on last weekend’s ugly confrontation with Celtic defender Auston Trusty during the Premier Sports Cup semi-final at Hampden.

Trusty hit Butland in the face with a late challenge, which referee Nick Walsh considered only worthy of a yellow card.
Almost a week later, Butland pondered on the incident, saying:
“There have been numerous viewpoints on it. At the time, I assumed it was late. As a goalie, you expect to be protected when you valiantly intercept the ball. Looking back, it was even later than I had realized. It’s a difficult one to accept, especially if it becomes the standard going ahead.”
The Rangers’ No.1 addressed Walsh at half-time for clarification, stating that he wanted calm discussion between officials to ensure the correct judgment was made. There was certainly considerable disappointment among our employees that day.”
