PSV make unusual official request to UEFA over potential Champions League fixture with Arsenal

According to reports, PSV and the municipality of Eindhoven have made an official request to UEFA in advance of the Champions League draw that will take place on Friday.

During the second leg of their play-off tie against Juventus, which took place on Wednesday night, the team coached by Peter Bosz secured their spot in the round of 16 draw for the Champions League. The remarkable victory was achieved by a score of 3-1.

PSV was able to tie the game on aggregate after 90 minutes, despite the fact that they had lost the first leg by a score of 2-1. However, defender Ryan Flamingo scored a dramatic goal in the 98th minute to advance the team to the next round.

In the round of 16, the Dutch team will compete against either Arsenal or Inter Milan. The draw will take place at the House of European Football in Nyon, Switzerland, at eleven o’clock in the morning, local time, on Friday.

It has come to light that PSV and the municipality of Eindhoven have made a customary request to UEFA to play their last-16 home match on Wednesday, March 5 rather than Tuesday, March 4. This request was made prior to the draw.

Tuesday is the final day of the funfair, according to a report from De Telegraaf, which suggests that PSV has made the request because of this.

Over the course of five days, beginning on February 28 and ending on March 4, the central area of Eindhoven, which is referred to as Lampegat during funfair, is transformed into a massive festival site that necessitates an increased presence of law enforcement.

Indeed, the deployment of police is the primary reason for the request that was made to UEFA, as stated in the report that was just mentioned.

The request for a funfair that PSV has made to UEFA is not the first time that they have done so; however, in 2007, the European Football Association turned down the appeal, and as a result, Eindhoven was compelled to play Arsenal on a Tuesday night.

The draw for the last 16 of the Champions League will take place on Friday, and it will begin at eleven in the morning, local time in the United Kingdom.

As an example, Arsenal will be paired with Inter Milan because the top eight clubs will be paired according to their final league position. This means that the first and second teams, the third and fourth teams, and so on will be paired together.

Following that, Arsenal will be assigned to one of the two spots in the bracket, which are currently held by either Feyenoord or PSV Eindhoven.

In preparation for the draw, four bowls are prepared, and the balls inside each bowl contain the names of each pair of teams that were seeded. The person who is chosen first will be assigned to the reserved spot at the top of the bracket, and the person who is chosen second will be assigned to the corresponding reserved spot on the opposite side of the bracket.

As a result, the team that is drawn first between Arsenal and Inter Milan will play against PSV, while the other team will play Feyenoord.
