Paris Saint-Germain have issued a statement following the hospitalisation of manager Luis Enrique on Friday. The Spaniard, who led the French giants to their first Champions League triumph last season, was involved in a bike accident, and the club said he sustained a fractured collarbone.
Enrique is an ardent cyclist who was frequently photographed riding a bike during the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, prior to Spain’s early elimination from the competition while in charge of La Roja. He then participated in the Absa Cape Epic in South Africa, where he cycled over 700 kilometres over eight days.
However, Enrique’s current bike journey resulted in an injury, as verified by a message posted on social media.
PSG Releases Statement on Luis Enrique’s Injury

The seriousness of the injury was described in a tweet on X, but a rehabilitation timeline for the Spaniard has yet to be provided.
“Following a bicycle fall that occurred this Friday, Paris Saint-Germain coach Luis Enrique was attended to by emergency services and will undergo surgery for a fractured collarbone,” the club’s statement said.
“Paris Saint-Germain offers Luis Enrique full support and a swift recovery. Further updates will be provided in due course.”
It is unclear how Enrique was injured, and whether he would spend any time on the sidelines as a result. While no recovery period has been specified, the NHS believes that patients who experience the injury can expect a full recovery in 8-12 weeks.
It is not the first time a PSG boss has suffered a catastrophic injury while in command of the Parisians. Thomas Tuchel sustained a fractured metatarsal just weeks before his team was scheduled to compete in the delayed 2020 Champions League final. As a result, the German was spotted on the sidelines with a medical boot and crutches, frequently sitting on a drinks cooler near the edge of his technical area.
