Jamie Carragher does not think that Liverpool, like Manchester United and Arsenal after their legendary managers left, will suffer following the departure of Jurgen Klopp.

Arne Slot will take over as Liverpool’s new head coach at Anfield come season’s end. The German manager is well-liked by the fans. After winning the Dutch Eredivisie and cup during his stay in the Netherlands, Slot comes from Feyenoord.

There have been hints that Liverpool might go through a similar phase of transition as Man United and the Gunners. Since Sir Alex Ferguson retired in 2013, United has had terrible results, and Unai Emery had a challenging time at the Emirates Stadium after taking over for Arsene Wenger at Arsenal.

However, Carragher has expressed his opinion that any worries about the Reds struggling under Slot should be allayed by the structure in place at Melwood.

“After Alex Ferguson left, Manchester United dropped from first to seventh place,” he said to the Metro. “Liverpool just secured the third place, so I doubt we will fall to the tenth rank.

“If we get a good summer transfer window, I think we’ll be competitive. Behind the scenes, there are people. When Ferguson left Manchester United, I don’t think they had that structure in place. With Wenger, it was the same. Those were the bygone days of traditional football managers handling everything.

“Those days are gone because you practically have to start over when a manager like that moves on, or any manager, for that matter. No manager, in my opinion, would want that. The fact that Arne Slot will serve as head coach instead of manager, in my opinion, is highly telling.

“I don’t think Liverpool will suffer as much as Arsenal and Manchester United. Although Jurgen Klopp is an excellent football manager, there may be a decline, but I still expect Liverpool to contend for all titles, including the Champions League.”
