After a contentious VAR review of an incident involving Tyler Adams and Alejandro Garnacho, the Premier League issued a statement.
Adams was sent off for a careless tackle on Manchester United winger Garnacho just before Bournemouth took the lead after Antoine Semenyo’s goal in the 23rd minute.
To the surprise of many, match referee Peter Bankes gave the Cherries midfielder a yellow card when he leaped in with both feet off the ground and caught Garnacho with his studs.
After the risky challenge, Man United supporters demanded a red card, but VAR reviewed the situation despite his on-field ruling.

The Premier League issued a statement shortly after Adams’ foul on Garnacho, in which VAR declared that it was “not serious foul play.”
A press release stated: “The referee’s call of yellow card for the challenge by Adams on Garnacho was checked and confirmed by VAR – with the challenge deemed reckless and not serious foul play.”
Soon after, Man United fell behind.
