Premier League introduce significant VAR change this season which fans have been pining for

A little over two weeks from now, the Premier League is going to implement a technology that will allow for semi-automated offside detection.

On Saturday, April 12, the technology will be put into action, and it will be presented during the round of top flight matches that will take place over the weekend.

This comes after a period of testing in the Premier League that was not conducted in real time, as well as live operations in the FA Cup during this season.

It was stated in a statement released by the Premier League that “Semi-automated offside technology automates key elements of the offside decision-making process to support the video assistant referee (VAR).”

In addition to generating virtual graphics and providing a more effective placement of the virtual offside line through the utilisation of optical player tracking, it also ensures that fans have a better experience both inside the stadium and during broadcasts.

This technology ensures that the process is carried out in an honest manner while simultaneously enhancing the speed, efficiency, and consistency of decision-making that occurs offside.

“The Premier League has worked in collaboration with PGMOL and sports data and technology company Genius Sports to develop the new semi-automated offside technology system.”

In light of the fact that the semi-offside technology has garnered praise for its speed and effectiveness, this decision will be well received by the fans.
