Player in London for medicals with Chelsea – Transfer to be made official in ‘coming hours’

Renato Veiga from FC Basel is expected to be signed by Chelsea following earlier rumours of an agreement.

According to the newspaper O Jogo, the player is already in London and is scheduled to undergo his Blues medical at some time today.

The signing is expected to cost Chelsea €15 million, and the deal is expected to become official in the next few hours.

Sporting, who will receive a portion of the deal, was Veiga’s previous club, which is why the Portuguese media is paying attention to the story.
The Lions retained 10% of Veiga’s future transfer when they sold him to Basel for €4.6 million last summer. Now that he’s moved to Chelsea, they will receive €1.5 million.
The defender didn’t even make his professional debut at Sporting, where he spent several years in the academy but was never able to secure a spot in the first squad.

Because of this, he played on loan at Ausburg before being acquired by Basel, where he appeared in 26 games the previous campaign.

We’ll have to wait and see if Chelsea is utilising him or if they decide to temporarily loan the young player to someone else.
