When the English FA prohibits transgender women from playing women’s football, Piers Morgan responds in four words.
Piers Morgan expressed his strong opinions against transgender women’s exclusion from English women’s football.
Following the English FA’s decision to prohibit transgender women from women’s football, Piers Morgan responded with four words.
Transgender women football players will not be allowed to play in England’s women’s league starting in the upcoming season due to a change in the FA’s inclusiveness policy.
A Supreme Court ruling last month that a woman is legally defined only by her biological sex prompted them to seek ‘professional legal counsel’ before allowing transgender women to play in the women’s game.
The FA responded in a statement: “This is a complicated topic, and we have always maintained that we would evaluate and adjust the policy if necessary if there were a significant change in the law, science, or how grassroots football operates.
“We will be altering our policy in light of the Supreme Court’s decision on April 16. Beginning on June 1, 2025, transgender women will no longer be permitted to participate in women’s football in England.
“We understand that this will be difficult for people who simply want to play the game they love in the gender by which they identify, and we are contacting the registered transgender women currently playing to explain the changes and how they can continue to stay involved in the game.”
After the FA reversed its position on transgender women football players participating in the women’s game, Morgan took to social media.
His message on X was: “Finally.. common sense prevails.”
A day after the Scottish FA rendered the same decision, the English FA decided to prohibit transgender women’s football players from playing women’s football.
Women’s football players over 13 in Scotland will only be permitted to play starting in the upcoming season if they were born female.
Transgender women are not believed to play women’s professional football in Scotland or England.
Both countries’ new laws follow the example of sports like rugby, cricket, and athletics that have outright prohibited transgender women from participating in women’s sports.
