Philippe Clement provides the latest transfer report as Norwich City faces a new battle for their 21-goal scorer, with Celtic and Martin O’Neill also in the running.

Norwich City might be dealt a late blow in the winter transfer season by Scottish Premiership giants Celtic, who are prepared to compete for their top striker target.

The Canaries extended their resurgence in the Championship on Monday, defeating leaders Coventry City 2-1 due to goals from Anis Ben Slimane and Ali Ahmed.

Philippe Clement’s side has won four straight games in all competitions and is now four points ahead of the second-tier relegation zone.

Norwich has also had success in the transfer market, with January recruit Ahmed from the Vancouver Whitecaps scoring four goals in his first three games for the Canaries.

Clement is expected to make alterations to his forward line before the transfer window ends, as Josh Sargent prepares to leave Norwich.

The USA international has not played in the Championship since a 2-0 loss to Stoke City on January 4, leaving Norwich increasingly reliant on fellow striker Jovon Makama.

Meanwhile, Norwich are interested in signing Bodo/Glimt striker Kasper Hogh, who impressed with a brace against Manchester City in the Champions League last week.

According to Football Insider’s Pete O’Rourke (via X), Celtic are now pursuing a late move for the 25-year-old.

Martin O’Neill, current Celtic manager, previously led the Canaries in 1995, and he’s now hoping to outbid his former team for the prolific Danish striker, who has 21 goals this season in the UEFA Champions League, Norwegian league, and cup competitions.

Norwich have not felt the full impact of Sargent’s absence in recent weeks, since Makama has been in blistering form, scoring four goals in his previous four games, including a hat-trick in the 5-1 FA Cup win against Walsall.

However, with the USA international poised to leave Carrow Road, Clement requires additional depth in the striker position, as Makama is just in his first season at Championship level, having previously played for League One club Lincoln City.

As a result, if Hogh joins Celtic rather than returning to Norfolk, the Canaries’ chances of moving further away from the second-tier relegation zone may suffer.

Despite the presence of surprise league leaders Hearts, Celtic remain in contention for the Scottish Premiership title, and the Bodo/Glimt man may be looking forward to the opportunity to win silverware in Glasgow.

In contrast, Norwich’s primary goal is to avoid relegation to League One.

Clement’s men will be in a good mood after defeating championship contenders Coventry 5-0, and they will be full of confidence going into Saturday’s game against automatic promotion contenders Middlesbrough.

Boro are also in good form, having won three games in a row against the Baggies, Stoke, and, most recently, Preston North End.

While Norwich prepares for a probable victory over the North East side, the Canaries may be frustrated by transfer market events if Hogh joins Celtic.
