Philippe Clement issues a EFL referees warning after Birmingham City F.C.’s win at Norwich City F.C

Birmingham City defeated Norwich City 2-1, their first win at Carrow Road since 2002.

Following Norwich City’s defeat to Birmingham City, Philippe Clement has urged for the introduction of VAR in the Championship.

The Blues dominated the Canaries in the first half at Carrow Road, with goals from Carlos Vicente and Marvin Ducksch.

Kenny McLean responded for Norwich with 23 minutes remaining, but the Blues held on for the three points.

Blues had a few difficult moments, most notably a scuffle between Mohamed Toure and Christoph Klarer, which the home fans thought should have resulted in a penalty. Referee Farai Hallam did not agree.

When asked about the event, Norwich manager Clement advocated for the use of VAR in England’s second division.

“We cannot say everything that we think,” he told us. “What I’d say is that it’s strange that there is no VAR in the Championship.

“All referees in the top league in the world, the Premier League, use VAR. These referees heading to the Premier League will need to practice someplace, therefore I believe it would be logical for them to do so in the Championship.

“It’s also a league with a lot of money and clubs that go up and down, so I believe it would be wonderful.

“The referees miss things, they are human, but they don’t get the help that this league deserves.”
