Now that the play-off round of the Champions League has been completed, the Premier League teams that are still competing in the competition have a better understanding of the possible paths that could lead them to the championship match.
As a result of Kylian Mbappe’s hat-trick, Manchester City was eliminated from the Champions League after suffering a 3-1 loss (6-3 aggregate) against Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabeu on Wednesday evening. The Spanish club defeated Manchester City by a score of 3-1.
Arsenal, Liverpool, and Aston Villa are the three Premier League teams that are still competing in this year’s competition from the Premier League.
However, they have not yet been informed of who they will face in the round of sixteen, and the draw is scheduled to take place on Friday at eleven in the morning in Nyon, Switzerland.
The aforementioned teams’ paths to this year’s championship match have become more transparent as a result of the new’seeding’ system that is being utilised by UEFA.
In the round of 16, Liverpool will play either Paris Saint-Germain or Benfica, while Arsenal will play either PSV Eindhoven or Feyenoord. Both teams will be competing against each other.
When it comes to Villa, they might match up against Borussia Dortmund or Club Brugge.
In the draw that will take place on Friday, the teams will be seeded according to their group phase ranking. Liverpool will finish first, Arsenal will finish third, and Villa will finish eighth.
UEFA’s website states that “the clubs are paired based on their positions at the end of the league phase to form four seeded pairs.” These seeded pairs consist of clubs that are ranked in positions 1 and 2, 3 and 4, 5 and 6, 7 and 8, and 8 and 7.
In the round of 16, the clubs that are a part of each seeded pair are drawn into one of two positions to compete against the relevant winner of the knockout phase play-offs. The position of the relevant winner was determined by the draw that took place during the knockout phase play-offs.
The “pairs,” such as Barcelona and Liverpool, will not compete against one another until the final, which will take place on May 31 at the Allianz Arena in Munich, Germany, which is owned and operated by Bayern Munich.
Therefore, Arsenal will not be able to play Inter Milan until the championship match, and Villa will not play Lille, a French team, until the competition that takes place in May.
As a result of the draw, there will be a “blue side” and a “silver side,” and the paths that teams take to reach the championship game will be impacted by this.

Following that, they may face Bayern Munich, Bayer Leverkusen, Atletico Madrid, Feyenoord, Inter Milan, Arsenal, Real Madrid, or PSV in the semifinals.
