Norwich City issues latest Josh Sargent warning – £12 million expected for West Ham transfer

West Ham United are interested in signing Norwich City striker Josh Sargent during the January transfer window as they seek to improve their striking options.

Nuno Espírito Santo is looking to strengthen his Hammers squad ahead of the second half of the season, given their present position in the Premier League relegation zone.

Sargent would provide the 51-year-old with another attacking option, since Callum Wilson and Jarrod Bowen are now the only senior forwards available to him, with the exception of Niclas Füllkrug, who has failed to make an impact in East London and has not started a game since October.

According to Teamtalk.com, West Ham have begun internal discussions about a potential Sargent deal for next month.

The USA international had a strong start to the 2025/26 season, scoring five goals in the first four games of the Championship season, but he has only scored once since August.

Norwich are also in a relegation battle this season, so they may try to keep their number nine in January, especially as his contract does not expire until the summer of 2028.

Josh Sargent’s move to West Ham would be a “no-brainer”

We asked our Norwich fan pundit, Zeke Downes, if he could see Sargent being tempted by a move to the London Stadium, and if he did make the switch in January, how much money he expected the Canaries to earn for his services.

“I would say it would be a no-brainer for him to be interested in that move,” Zeke informed me.

“The only issue is that they are plainly near to the relegation zone, but they have enough to get out since they have league experience and a decent enough roster — they are just not in a good spot right now.

“I believe they will eventually make it out of the bottom three, so if Sargent is interested, which I believe he is, that would be a great move for him.

“I would not begrudge it. He has already stayed longer than he should or should have done. His worth may have decreased little, but because it is the January window, we may be able to receive a little more for him.

“It would not be the end of the world to lose him. We now have Makama, who is showing to be a capable goal scorer in this league.

“If we can collect enough money from Sargent, we can use it to sign a winger and a striker, and we should be fine.

“We have Kvistgaarden, who is also a striker and has done well when he’s played, so if we can have Makama, Kvistgaarden, and another player, I think that’s a good situation to be in.

“We also have Crnac, who will return for next season.

“We were hoping for £20 million in the summer — we could probably ask for £15 million and if we get £12 million then I would say it probably will happen.”

Josh Sargent deal might cost West Ham at least £20 million.

While West Ham are definitely looking for a striker who would provide value for money during the January transfer window, signing Sargent is likely to cost them a large transfer fee.

Given that Norwich are in danger of being relegated to League One, Sargent has lots of time left on his contract, and it is no secret that West Ham are keen for front-line reinforcements, there is no reason why the Canaries will not demand a high price for the 25-year-old next month.

According to Teamtalk.com, the Carrow Road club may value Sargent at more than £20 million, which is higher than West Ham expected.

With Sargent presumably interested in a move to the Premier League, as Zeke hinted, it would be intriguing to see how any potential transfer drama unfolds if West Ham make an approach for the striker once the transfer market opens.
