Norwich City defeated Birmingham City to reach a transfer agreement with Celtic FC.

Norwich City has been linked with a January move to sign Celtic winger Hyun-jun Yang.

According to journalist Anthony Joseph, the Canaries will renew their interest in South Korea’s international market when it opens in the new year.

Yang has appeared 11 times in the Scottish Premiership this season, including eight starts, but has yet to score a goal or assist.

After being named manager in November, Philippe Clement will have his first opportunity to make changes to the first-team squad at Carrow Road in January.

Norwich are at risk of relegation to League One, thus they will be looking to strengthen their squad for the second half of the Championship season.

Two significant considerations in Hyun-jun Yang’s signing for Norwich

When asked about the possibility of signing Yang despite competition from Birmingham City, FLW’s Norwich fan commentator Zeke Downes stated that reassurances about game time and matching the Blues’ projected wage offer will be critical to signing the winger.

He is doubtful whether the 23-year-old will be good enough to strengthen Clement’s team, but given the Canaries’ lack of options out wide, he should have a better chance of regular minutes by signing with them.

“I think it’s likely that we could have the pulling power, especially because we know that we don’t have many options on the wing, so he’ll probably get reassurance that he will get game,” Downes said in a statement.

“I don’t know much about him; I know he has been highly rated in the past, but he hasn’t been doing so well lately, I don’t believe.

“So, as long as the price is reasonable, I don’t mind it.

“But I believe we will be able to beat Birmingham to it.

“The only thing is that they would have to strive to match the wage demands since Birmingham plainly has the ability to pay more than us.

“So, just sort of depends on what they’re going to promise in terms of starting position and money.”

Norwich are presently 23rd in the Championship table, following a 1-1 draw with Preston North End last weekend.

Jovon Makama put Clement’s team ahead in the final stages, but Will Keane equalised deep into stoppage time to split the spoils at Deepdale.

The loss means the Norfolk club has won two of their last seven games under their new management, leaving them three points from safety before Christmas.

Next up for Norwich is a home clash against Charlton Athletic on 26 December in a 3pm kick-off.

Norwich has one important feature that can swing Hyun-jun Yang signs

Norwich are battling at the bottom of the Championship table, but the team still has time to turn things around.

Yang’s recruitment might be a catalyst for improved form in the final third, and the absence of impediments to becoming a major member of the team may persuade him to join Carrow Road rather than Birmingham.

While the Blues’ aspirations are lofty, they may not be sufficient for the winger if he is not going to play consistently.

If Norwich can close this deal, it could be just what they need to provide more of an offensive threat under Clement.
