Nick Kyrgios holds nothing back with response to Jannik Sinner being banned from tennis

Immediately following the announcement that Jannik Sinner has been suspended from the sport of tennis, Nick Kyrgios has responded by taking a jab at Sinner and his team.

As a result of reaching a settlement with the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA), Sinner, who is currently ranked number one in the world and won the Australian Open, has been banned from playing tennis for a period of three months.

A total of two positive drug tests were returned by the 23-year-old in the year 2024. Additionally, the BBC reported that the individual tested positive for low levels of the metabolite clostebol, which is a steroid that is used to build muscle.

During that time period, Sinner was given a provisional suspension; however, after successfully challenging the suspension, the Italian was granted permission to continue competing.

A month ago, Sinner triumphed over Alexander Zverev in straight sets to win the Australian Open in Melbourne. This victory was Sinner’s first Grand Slam victory of the year.

On Saturday, the public was informed that Sinner had been immediately banned from the game.

“This case had been hanging over me for nearly a year, and the process still had a long time to run with a decision possibly not coming until the end of the year,” Sinner said in a statement that was released on his behalf.

“I have always acknowledged that I am responsible for my team, and I am aware that the stringent rules that Wada has in place are an essential safeguard for the sport that I feel so passionate about. It is for this reason that I have decided to accept Wada’s offer to settle these proceedings on the basis of a sanction that will last for three months.

Following the dissemination of the information, Kyrgios, an Australian tennis player who has previously expressed his disapproval of doping, expressed his reaction on social media.

Nick Kyrgios provides his thoughts on the three-month suspension handed down to Jannik Sinner

In three separate posts on X, he wrote, “DODGY AS,” and then he added, “So wada come out and say it would be a ban for one to two years.” The Sinners team has obviously done everything in their power to just go ahead and accept a three-month ban, with no titles or prize money being forfeited in the process either. Do you feel guilty or not? Tennis has a sad day today. The game of tennis is not played in a fair manner.

Kyrgios then responded by saying: “I know a lot of players that are feeling the same way at the moment so looking to hold live spaces next week so we can talk about it – stay tuned for exact time.”
