News about Norwich City’s manager search: Chris Sutton criticism, Russell Martin connection, and Gary O’Neil approach

Following their 2-1 loss to Leicester City over the weekend, Norwich City announced their intention to fire Liam Manning.

After a challenging start to the season, the Canaries have decided to switch up their dugout during the international break in November.

Only in the summer was the 40-year-old brought in to replace Johannes Hoff Thorup, who had come from Bristol City.

With only two league victories in 15 games under his leadership, the squad is now four points outside of safety in 23rd place in the Championship standings.

Here, we examine all of the most recent information regarding Norwich’s search for a permanent manager.

Chris Sutton sympathizes with Liam Manning

After Manning’s dismissal was revealed over the weekend, former Norwich player Chris Sutton expressed his sympathies for him.

The Sky Sports analyst hinted at his broader critiques of the club’s present management when he stated that the manager was not the main cause of the team’s performance this season.

Sutton wrote, “I’m so sorry for Liam Manning,” through X.

“A really good man.

“Basically taking the blame for not getting the most out of the mediocre new hires… The main cause of Norwich City’s current predicament is not Manning.

Ben Knapper, the director of Sporting, has been criticized for his involvement in Norwich’s challenging start to the season, especially in relation to player acquisition.

Gary O’Neil’s method

Gary O’Neil, a former player, has been approached by Norwich about taking over as manager after Manning.

FLW has exclusively disclosed that the 42-year-old has been contacted by the Canaries in reference to their open managerial position.

Prior to dropping out of the running to succeed Vitor Pereira, O’Neil, who has coached Bournemouth and Wolves in the Premier League, was rumored to be returning to Molineux.

The former midfielder could be persuaded to return to lead the team after spending two years at Carrow Road and making more than fifty league games.

Russell Martin interest

Russell Martin, another former Norwich player, has been mentioned as a potential return to the team to take over as manager.

The 39-year-old is reportedly considering the position in light of the Canaries’ interest, according to Give Me Sport.

Martin, who was fired from Rangers in October after a dismal start to the season, is currently available. He has Championship experience from his stints at Swansea City and Southampton.

However, in recent weeks, Martin has also been connected to a return to St. Mary’s, as the Hampshire team looks to replace Will Still.

Ben Knapper wants to mend the bond between Norwich fans.

According to Knapper, he helped Manning improve the team’s recent bad performance, but in the end, a change in the dugout was necessary.

In the face of irate fans, he has taken ownership of the situation and stated his intention to mend fences with the fans in the future.

“Unfortunately, given the recent run of results and performances, we have been left with no choice other than to make a change at this stage,” Knapper wrote on the club’s official website, adding that “we have tried absolutely everything possible to work through this incredibly challenging period.”

“Liam and his team put in a lot of effort to enhance our football team.

“They are all essentially decent individuals, and we hope the best for them in their future endeavors.

“We completely comprehend our supporters’ annoyance and criticism at this point.

Results and on-field performances haven’t been up to par thus far.

“We acknowledge that responsibility, but we must now begin to mend the relationship with our supporters and make every effort to provide them with something to support.”
