Newcastle issue final ultimatum to Alexander Isak hours after Liverpool’s defeat in Community Shield

This summer, Liverpool’s bid for the striker was denied.

Newcastle United has reportedly handed a last transfer ultimatum to dissatisfied striker Alexander Isak, just hours after Liverpool lost the Community Shield.

Isak, who has three years left on his current contract at St James’ Park, has voiced a desire to leave the Magpies following his greatest season with the club, in which he scored 27 goals in 42 appearances across all competitions.

Isak was part of the team that defeated Liverpool in last season’s Carabao Cup final, and he also helped the club finish fifth in the Premier League, with the Magpies set to participate in the Champions League this season.

Isak joined Newcastle in 2022 for a claimed club record amount of £63 million from Spanish club Real Sociedad, and he has 62 goals in 109 games over three seasons since.

However, the Sweden international did not play for Newcastle during the club’s pre-season tour of Asia, citing a desire to move on.

Premier League winners Liverpool are interested in bringing Isak to Anfield and reportedly had a proposal of £110 million rejected by Newcastle at the beginning of August.

Liverpool had a hectic summer transfer market, with many ins and outs at Anfield ahead of Arne Slot’s second season in command.

Liverpool has spent more than £250 million this summer, adding Bayer Leverkusen’s Florian Wirtz and Jeremie Frimpong, Bournemouth’s Milos Kerkez, Valencia’s Giorgi Mamardashvili, and Eintracht Frankfurt’s Hugo Ekitike.

So far, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Jarell Quansah, Luis Diaz, Tyler Morton, Darwin Nunez, and Caoimhin Kelleher have all moved on.

Liverpool’s new season began with a Community Shield defeat to Crystal Palace on Sunday, falling on penalties at Wembley Stadium.

Ekitike put Liverpool ahead at Wembley Stadium, but the Eagles equalised by a penalty from Jean-Philippe Mateta, before Frimpong put Liverpool back ahead.

Ismaila Sarr scored Palace’s second equaliser in the second half, sending the match to a penalty shootout after a 2-2 tie.

And Palace won 3-2 on penalties as custodian Dean Henderson saved from Harvey Elliott and Alexis MacAllister, and Mo Salah missed his place attempt.

Will Liverpool make another bid for Alexander Isak?
Liverpool has yet to make an additional offer for Isak, who trains separately from the rest of Newcastle’s team.

And the Magpies have now issued a last ultimatum to Isak this summer, making the situation clear for the striker.

According to the Newcastle Chronicle, the club has informed Isak that an additional bid is required if the Magpies are to sell its star player.

“There has been talk of £150m but others on the agent circuit have suggested that £130m plus add ons may yet offer a breakthrough,” the newspaper reported.

According to reports, Isak has been advised that if there is no’serious offer’ for him, no transfer will go place.

And until then, Isak has been given the opportunity to train ahead of Newcastle’s first game against Aston Villa on Saturday.

Meanwhile, the Daily Mail reports that Liverpool plans to make a second bid for Isak, but only after Newcastle has found a replacement for the forward.
