After defeating the defending winners League winners Real Madrid on Wednesday, Arsenal had one of the best nights in their recent history. Mikel Arteta praised Pep Guardiola, his Manchester City rival, for the victory on the road.
The north Londoners’ resilience was evident as they outperformed, outworked, and outshone Los Blancos in the Santiago Bernabeu, replicating their performance at home a week prior, guaranteeing their spot in the Champions League semifinals.
William Saliba’s defensive blunder, which Vinicius Jr. pounced on in the 67th minute, was rendered completely pointless by Bukayo Saka’s clever chip over Thibaut Courtois and Gabriel Martinelli’s dramatic winner three minutes into stoppage time.
For the first time in their legendary history since 2009, the Gunners went to Spain with the presumption that they were already in the semi-finals of Europe’s biggest championship, but there was still everything to play for in the second leg.
Because of this, Arteta, the manager of Arsenal, who is considered by many to be among the best in the world of football, decided to telephone his old coach Guardiola, 54, prior to his team’s second leg in the Spanish capital. Before the game began, he disclosed:
Yes, I did give him a call this morning as I think he is a big part of the reason I am here. In the first place, he was an inspiration to me as a coach and player, and in the second place, he took a risk on me, added me to his coaching staff, and allowed me to spend four amazing years with him.

“And I believe that I will always be grateful to him; otherwise, I doubt that I would be sitting here today.” The forty-three-year-old ended as he and his staff got ready for Real Madrid’s’remontada’, which never materialised.
As previously said, Arteta spent four years at Manchester City under the Catalan and considers himself fortunate to have honed his skills under the tutelage of a man widely regarded as one of the best football managers of all time.
The Arsenal head coach won two Premier League titles with Guardiola, but he was eager to establish himself as a manager, which is why he took over Unai Emery’s seat in the Emirates Stadium dugout in December 2019.
Since then, he has continued to improve at the capital club, contending for the Premier League championship for two consecutive seasons. And even though he hasn’t yet found any cutlery, Arteta will eventually be holding trophies in the air.
Arsenal’s next opponent is Paris Saint-Germain. The English team, who are considered to be among the greatest teams to never win the Champions League, has momentum on their side, but the reigning French team is still one of the favourites in the league.
