Sammy Silvera is having trouble making the starting lineup under Kim Hellberg, and Middlesbrough is willing to let him go during the January transfer window.

Under Michael Carrick’s tutelage, the Australian winger made frequent appearances in his debut season after joining Boro in 2023.

But in recent years, Silvera’s situation on Teesside has gotten harder, as he struggled to contribute on his season-long loan at Portsmouth and Blackpool.

In the January transfer window, Sammy Silvera will be permitted to depart from Middlesbrough.

Silvera seized the opportunity for a new beginning when Rob Edwards arrived at Riverside Stadium in the summer. The Australian international played as a wing-back under the former Luton manager’s setup.

However, a lot has occurred at Boro since Edwards left for Wolves, including Hellberg joining the team and changing the formation.

Silvera has struggled for playing time as a result; under the Swedish head coach, he has only made two substitute appearances and was left off of the match day squad for the Boxing Day tie against Blackburn.

It seems that Silvera is well down the hierarchy, and according to Teesside Live, the 25-year-old may be leaving in the coming year.

First off, Middlesbrough is aware that they are not in a strong negotiating position because this may be their only chance to obtain a fee for the former Central Coast Mariners player, whose contract expires in the summer.

The report also clarifies that Silvera will be eager to leave Boro in order to secure a spot in Australia’s World Cup team. The attacker will want to be on the plane to America, but he is by no means a lock to start for the Socceroos.

After that, it’s reasonable to assume that it wouldn’t come as a huge surprise if Silvera were to move out in the coming year because it would be advantageous for everyone.

In all honesty, he has no future at Boro because Hellberg obviously thinks he has better options, and Silvera’s contract predicament makes it doubtful that he will be given new terms.

Therefore, from a financial and athletic standpoint, Boro would benefit greatly if they could secure a compensation for the player in January.

Regarding the player, Silvera is aware of how crucial it is that he receives consistent playing time in order to fulfill his aspirations of representing Australia at the World Cup.
