Middlesbrough FC agree terms with Wolves for Rob Edwards to join Premier League club

Middlesbrough Football Club has signed terms with Wolverhampton Wanderers for head coach Rob Edwards to join the Premier League club.

Boro announced in a statement that it had reached an agreement with the Birmingham club, despite Edwards signing a three-year contract on Teesside less than six months earlier.

The same statement on its website admitting they were “disappointed” Edwards wanted to meet with Wolves, who are looking for a replacement for previous head coach Vitor Pereira and aiming to turn around their current situation, which has them at the bottom of the top division.

The announcement came just hours before Middlesbrough hosts Birmingham City at the Riverside Stadium.

Edwards had already been sidelined due to rising speculation over his future in the North East, and a pre-match press conference on Friday was canceled.

The statement on Middlesbrough’s website read: “We first rejected an offer from Wolves since Rob signed a three-year contract with MFC less than six months ago.

“After negotiations with Rob, we were unhappy to find that he wished to meet with Wolves about their head coach post. We have now reached terms with Wolves, subject to the completion of the necessary paperwork. First-team coaches Adi Viveash and Harry Watling, as well as Academy manager Craig Liddle, will lead the club against Birmingham City at the Riverside on Saturday.

Boro are presently third in the Championship standings, but have not won in their last three games.
