Sheffield United’s season appears to be coming to an end, with the Blades in no danger of relegation or breaking into the top six with five games remaining, as fans will be keen to put this terrible year behind them.
In the coming years, few Sheffield United fans will remember the 2025/26 season.
Ruben Selles’ short stint, which many will have forgotten, plagued their entire campaign, with the Blades never really rebounding from his terrible start and abysmal recruitment.
Chris Wilder, who has navigated the club away from relegation fears, will not receive many accolades for his efforts this year, since the club has fallen far short of expectations, and he will be as eager as anyone to see the season end.
Poor performances have been widespread throughout the group, and it would be inappropriate to single out any individual individuals. However, the goalkeeping department has been subpar for nearly the whole season.
Michael Cooper and Adam Davies, despite their previous success, will be just as frustrated with their campaigns as everyone else.
Though Cooper hasn’t reached the heights he did last year, Blades fans will be relieved hearing the latest report on the 26-year-old.
To the relief of Sheffield United fans, rumours that Michael Cooper is out for up to a year have been dispelled.

In Sheffield United’s 2-1 home defeat to Coventry City in February, number one shot-stopper Cooper sustained a ‘unique’ injury, with Wilder later revealing the Exeter-born goalkeeper would miss at least the next 12 weeks.
Wilder stated, “Coops felt something on Wednesday night, and he woke up Thursday morning with a lot of swelling around his knee. He had a scan, and according to the doctor, it is a really uncommon injury. “There was something around the back of his knee.”Then we reviewed the game tape to see what had transpired. But it’s a unique one, and it’s irritating. But he’s been out for 12 weeks, which means he’s officially in preseason. But he’s fine for the preseason; no surgery is required. All he needs to do is rehab, relax, and recuperate naturally.
This virtually rules him out for the rest of the season, with deputy keeper Davies filling in.
Rumours began to emerge online among Sheffield United fans that Cooper would be out for 12 months, rather than 12 weeks, due to an injury operation.
However, Sheffield Star’s Danny Hall verified to X that those were just rumors and that Cooper would not be sitting out the next year.
While the former Plymouth Argyle goalkeeper hasn’t been at his best this season, it will undoubtedly come as a tremendous relief to Blades fans, who will be hoping to see him back in goal and performing at the levels he has shown he is capable of sooner rather than later.
Chris Wilder will be eager to get Michael Cooper back to his best for Sheffield United after an injury setback.

With nothing to play for, Wilder can put his Blades squad to the test and decide who he wants to keep next season, especially with a busy summer ahead.
No wins in their previous six will have informed him more than six wins could have, as the 58-year-old will begin to have a better idea of what his team might look like next season.
Cooper, despite a bad year, will almost definitely keep his job between the posts at Bramall Lane, as Wilder will be the most aware of his abilities.
According to FotMob, Cooper has conceded 6.8 more goals than projected this season, trailing just West Brom’s Joshua Griffiths in the Championship.
Numerous variables will have contributed to this point, as Cooper has clearly not become a horrible shot-stopper overnight, and Wilder must address the root of his underperformance heading into next year.
Wilder will be aiming high again in South Yorkshire next season, and Cooper will need to hit new heights if Sheffield United wants to compete in the top tier of the second division.
