McCoist aims dig at Man Utd winger Antony as pundit names ‘best of a bad bunch’ Red Devils attacker

The greatest clue yet that Trent Alexander-Arnold may be prepared to commit to a new contract and reject Real Madrid’s approaches came when he said he is “excited” about what the future holds for the Reds under new manager Arne Slot.

Having made 315 appearances for Liverpool since making his debut under Jurgen Klopp in October 2016, the homegrown talent is among the most significant members of the Merseysiders. In that time, Alexander-Arnold has also contributed 19 goals and 82 assists, including his first of the season on Tuesday during the Reds’ 3-1 Champions League victory against AC Milan. This is rather impressive for a player who plays defense most of the time.

But like teammates Virgil van Dijk and Mo Salah, Alexander-Arnold’s contract expires at the conclusion of the current campaign, therefore the Reds management is anxious to see if the player agrees to an extension.

The Reds are aware that they will have to fight to lock down their star player to a new contract because Real Madrid is a serious threat that is always present and since they have declared Alexander-Arnold a top target for 2025.

Speaking following the thrilling victory at the San Siro on Tuesday, Alexander-Arnold seemed to imply he is happy at Liverpool and is “excited” about Slot’s plans for the Reds.

Alexander-Arnold remarked, “For me, it was just an excitement to work under a new manager that I’ve never had before.”

“I was excited about the plans and the way they talk about it after speaking with the manager.”

Alexander-Arnold’s passion for Liverpool has never been concealed.
Alexander-Arnold’s close friendship with Jude Bellingham strengthens his ties to Real Madrid, but it’s understandable why the 25-year-old would be enticed to move to the Spanish capital and follow in Kylian Mbappe’s footsteps as the latest well-known free agent to do so.

Though Liverpool will not give up on the player without a fight and are willing to make him one of the best-paid players in their history were he to commit to a new deal, sources close to TEAMtalk confirmed on Tuesday that Los Blancos are in “constant contact” with Alexander-Arnold and his entourage as they look to persuade him to leave the Reds.

However, Liverpool will get increasingly anxious the longer they have to wait, especially as the player may sign a pre-contract with Real starting on January 1.

But Alexander-Arnold has never disguised his admiration for Liverpool, and he previously told The Times that he wanted to play his whole career at Anfield.

“I would much prefer be in Liverpool than anywhere else. Liverpool is a place I want to stay for the rest of my career,” Alexander-Arnold remarked. That’s what I’ve desired my entire life. Liverpool is unique.

“It is entirely up to the fans.” We always have their affection, no matter what happens. One day, I want to be a captain. That is undoubtedly my dream.

“I believe that one day, with commitment, wise counsel, and the hard work that remains, I could realize my ambition of becoming captain—something of which my family and I will be immensely happy if it materializes.”

Petit gives guidance on the prospects of Van Dijk, Salah, and Inter as targets for Liverpool.
Although Liverpool wants to sign Alexander-Arnold to a longer contract, they also need to make important decisions over the contracts of Van Dijk and Salah, who are also approaching expiration.

Salah is currently 32 years old, while Dutch defender Van Dijk turned 33 during the summer—ages that are often reserved for athletes who are looking to terminate their careers.

But the Reds duo is still at the top of their game, and anyone seeing them play at the San Siro on Tuesday will see two players who are fully committed to having another great season.

Emmanuel Petit, a former Arsenal player, is certain that both players should get new contracts.

“Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah appear to have a few more years at the top level, without a doubt. They have both been outstanding players for the club for a very long time. They are both such amazing players.

Inter Milan is rumored to have added star kid Jarell Quansah to their list of potential targets for 2025, meaning Liverpool may have to fight in the future to keep him on staff.

Thought to be a perfect fit for Simone Inzaghi’s team, certain worries expressed over the player’s playing time at Anfield may lead to a transfer.
