Marcus Rashford responds to Erik ten Hag challenge with eight-word message

According to Marcus Rashford, he wants to prove Erik ten Hag wrong and finish the season wearing his shooting boots.

Rashford, 26, scored twice as Manchester United defeated League One team Barnsley 7-0 in the Carabao Cup third round on Tuesday, building on his season-opening goal from last Saturday. At Old Trafford, Ten Hag’s team easily won thanks to goals from the Red Devils striker both before and after the break.

The result was even more decisive than United’s 3-0 victory against Southampton on Saturday, with Rashford scoring United’s second goal to start the scoring. Ten Hag likened his strike, after the game, to the initial drop of sauce that comes out of a bottle of ketchup, with more to come.

After pounding Barnsley, Rashford has now replied, saying to Sky Sports, “It’s early to say but I hope so.” “Let’s go on to the next game and just rest, recover, and focus on that one,” he continued.

“Football is just football; there will always be ups and downs. We must use these games to gain momentum, establish consistency, and make every effort to play at your highest level.”

Ten Hag acknowledges that the previous campaign was “tough” for all of his players—including the goal-averse Rashford—as United finished the Premier League in seventh position and took home the FA Cup. However, with his career on the line, the Red Devils manager is hoping that the 26-year-old and his teammates can improve this season.

Ten Hag remarked, “He had this vibe and this good mood in my first season, too.” “I’m calm and sure that Marcus Rashford will score when I see him. We were fortunate to win a trophy last season, which is something you won’t soon forget, even if I believe that everyone had a difficult season.

However, at the end, we had identified our goals and achieved them, and this is what we hope to accomplish this season as well. We are really ambitious and want to advance as a team. We also want to improve and advance. Individual players are also important; from what I witnessed, Marcus Rashford wants to score goals. However, the entire squad—not just Marcus Rashford—is extremely eager and goal-oriented.”
