When Anthony Martial’s contract expires this summer, he will be leaving Old Trafford, and his Manchester United teammates Marcus Rashord and Bruno Fernandes have responded.
After Anthony Martial, a forward from France, announced his departure from Old Trafford, Marcus Rashford and Bruno Fernandes of Manchester United paid tribute to the player.
Martial joined the team in 2015 after moving from Monaco, and his contract is set to expire in the upcoming weeks, ending his nine-year tenure. The 28-year-old scored 90 goals in 317 games, with 2019–20 being his most productive season with 23 goals in 48 games.
Injury has plagued the striker’s final season; he last played for the team in December before needing surgery on his groin. Martial’s last game ended in a 3-0 loss to Bournemouth.
When he was signed nine years ago, he became the most expensive teenager in the world, so United’s charge came with high expectations. Despite never really becoming a star, he had a noticeable influence on his teammates.
Bruno Fernandes commented, “I’m going to miss link up with you toto,” along with a red heart on Instagram in response to Martial’s announcement.
Along with the sentiment, “So many memories together,” Rashford also shared a heart emoji on social media. Brother, stay blessed.”
Prior to his summer transfer, Martial gave United’s supporters a heartfelt farewell speech. It said, “Dear supporters of Manchester United,
I am writing to you today to say goodbye, and I am writing with a lot of emotion. It’s time for me to start a new chapter in my career after nine amazing years at the club.
“It has been an immense honor for me to wear this shirt and play in front of you, the greatest fans in the world, since I moved here in 2015! Through the good times and the bad, you have always been there for me. I have always found motivation in your dedication and passion.
“I want to sincerely thank you for everything that you have done for me. I will always cherish the memories you gave me, the songs you sang, and your love for the club.
“I also want to thank all of my teammates, the technical staff, and every club member I have encountered in my nine years here. Being able to tell you about these experiences makes me proud.
“My heart will always belong to Manchester United.” My career has been impacted by this club, which has also given me the amazing chance to perform in front of you. I’m leaving to pursue new opportunities, but I’ll always be a Red Devil and I’ll be fervently interested in the club’s performance.
“Once again, I appreciate everything. I’ll see you soon. With all of my love, Anthony Martial.
