A farewell video for Marc Guehi’s exit from Crystal Palace has surfaced on social media only minutes after the England international’s transfer to Liverpool fell through. The Eagles captain was set to join the Premier League champions for £35 million after passing a medical before the 7 p.m. deadline.
However, a stumbling block arose when Palace’s substitute, Igor Julio, decided to join West Ham instead, throwing the Guehi deal into turmoil. While Liverpool did submit a deal sheet to the Premier League, allowing for more time to complete the transfer, it was determined that Guehi would return to Selhurst Park, squandering the opportunity.
And it looks that everything was in order for the 25-year-old to be given an emotional farewell, as the video that was supposed to be published upon the announcement of his relocation has now surfaced on social media.
Guehi’s Leaked Farewell Video
The video, which has immediately gone viral on X, lasts just over three minutes and begins with black-and-white footage of Guehi in action before moving to an interview he recorded when he initially joined the club in 2021.
A montage of video followed, including Guehi’s first goal for Palace, his first time captaining the team and the ensuing post-match interview in which he appeared overjoyed, and a clip of the moment he learned he had been called up to England for the first time.
More footage was shown of him interacting with teammates, including the recently departed Eberechi Eze, before some of his best defensive actions and goals were highlighted, including the stunner against Aston Villa on Sunday, which appeared to be his final game for the club.
Unsurprisingly, the film concludes with images of Guehi celebrating Palace’s historic FA Cup victory, with his voice over the top saying:
“I’m a south London boy. grew raised in south London. Captained the club since an early age. They have been amazing to me and my family. It’s definitely a pleasure to play for this football club.”
The video ended with the images fading to black and the words ‘Thank You Skip’ taking up the center of the screen, capping off an emotional reminiscence on Guehi’s time at Selhurst Park.
The reaction to the leak has been overwhelmingly positive online, with many praising Guehi’s handling of the speculation during the same period when Alexander Isak and Yoane Wissa issued bombshell claims to force moves away from their clubs.
Guehi will return to Palace with a year remaining on his contract, which means he could depart on a free transfer next summer and can begin negotiating with clubs outside of England in January.
