In light of the fact that he is continuing to make an impression at the youth level, Chido Obi-Martin, a young player for Manchester United, would like to be referred to by a slightly different name going forward.
It is generally agreed upon that the forward, who is only 17 years old and joined United in September after the expiration of his schoolboy contract with Arsenal, is one of the most promising prospects for the club.
In point of fact, Ruben Amorim, who recently lauded Obi-Martin’s performance, has extended invitations to the club’s first team on multiple occasions, and the Denmark under-17 international has been invited to train with the club’s first team.
In recent months, the teenager has been making headlines under his double-barreled name. This is due to the fact that he scored a hat-trick in just thirteen minutes during his first start for their under-18 team against Nottingham Forest.
According to the Manchester Evening News, the player has recently requested that the name “Martin” be removed from his name going forward. Additionally, the official website of Manchester United refers to him as “Chido Obi.”
The teenage striker is currently averaging a goal every 35 minutes in the FA Youth Cup. On Wednesday, he scored a hat-trick against Chelsea under-18s, and has continued to do so throughout the competition.
In light of the fact that Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee continue to struggle in front of the net, many people have urged Ruben Amorim to give the youngster a chance to play.
In response to a question about whether or not Obi-Martin would be given playing time with the first team, Amorim dismissed the possibility.
“He’s doing his job, he’s improving, he’s playing in the youth teams, and we have also other players that can play in that position,” the Portuguese head coach stated in an interview.
“Rasmus [Hojlund] and Josh [Zirkzee] are there, we bought these two players, so we need to improve them and then sometimes the confidence can change a player.”
Amorim continued by saying, “We will see at the end of the season, but until then, we have access to two strikers who are capable of scoring goals.” It has been demonstrated in the past. For the purpose of assisting them in scoring goals, let’s see if we can improve as a team.
Adam Lawrence, the youth coach for Manchester United, referred to Chido Obi as a “natural goalscorer” after the latter scored a hat trick against Chelsea earlier this week.
“It was a really good night for both of the goalscorers [also known as Obi-Martin and Scanlon],” he said in an interview with MUTV. In spite of the fact that they did not score any goals, I thought that both of them had really good performances overall. It is abundantly clear that Chido is a natural goal scorer.
In addition, Lawrence stated, “He wants to score goals and get himself into those positions, but I was really pleased with him just in terms of his link-up play.” This means that he is not only stretching and running in behind, but he also knows when to show into feet, how to use his body to shield the ball, and when to bring others into play.
