The Red Devils were plagued by the same lingering issues from last season as they were defeated by a decisive late goal from Joao Pedro at the Amex Stadium.
Despite being a fresh campaign, Manchester United’s performance resembles that of last season. They played poorly away from home, failed to convert a crucial opportunity, and ultimately lost to a goal scored in the final moments of stoppage time. Brighton secured a 2-1 victory on Saturday thanks to Joao Pedro’s strike in the 94th minute.
United conceded a goal due to poor defending by Danny Welbeck, a former player. However, Amad Diallo made up for a significant miss in the first half by equalising with a lucky shot that deflected heavily after halftime.
United had the advantage and appeared to be on the verge of scoring a winning goal when substitute Alejandro Garnacho scored. However, the goal was unfairly disallowed by VAR because Joshua Zirkzee, who was in an offside position, touched the ball over the goal line.
Brighton capitalised on United’s poor defending, allowing them to secure a victory and achieve their third home win against United in four matches. Substitute Matthijs de Ligt and Harry Maguire failed to mark Pedro, who scored with a header.
GOAL evaluates the performance of United’s players at the Amex Stadium…
Goalkeeper and Defense Andre Onana (5/10):
A powerful kick initiated a superb offensive move, but a brief pass almost presented Brighton with a scoring opportunity. The user should have demonstrated more control over the box for both goals and made a daring move towards the end with an aggressive slide tackle.
Noussair Mazraoui’s performance is rated as 5 out of 10.
Brighton was not sufficiently challenged and, similar to the rest of the defence, became inattentive for the initial goal.
Harry Maguire’s performance was rated as 5 out of 10.
Although the defending was lacking in strength during Welbeck’s goal, there was a display of good anticipation later in the game. However, there was a lapse in focus again after Pedro’s late winning goal.
Lisandro Martinez has a rating of 5 out of 10.
Although he initially performed poorly in the opening match, he later showed improvement. However, he ultimately had a role in another defensive breakdown at the end.
Diogo Dalot received a rating of 7 out of 10.
Dynamic in both domains. Amad squandered his fantasy cross, and then he prevented Brighton from increasing their advantage with a goal-line clearing.
